Default The Spot

Has anyone tried or heard anything about these. They seem like a cool system. The purchase price is much cheaper than available alternatives. Check em out.

That looks pretty cool, I will have to do more research on it but it might be a low cost epirb substitute. and I can take it into the mountains and check in at home when I want to..

Thanks for the link!

One thing worries me, on their coverage map they talk about the time to acquire and send a message in terms of % of the time it's able to accomplish in 20 min. 20 minutes is along time when your boat is sinking. For the initial price and then the annual service fees I would go with a PLB.

I believe Rodgers Marine Electronics is, or will be, carrying these. I would imagine he'll have them at the Portland Boat Show.

Looks like more of a land based than marine system to me. I would seriously caution anyone from having this as a substitute for an EPIRB.

They don't even look that waterproof to me.

I know nothing about them, but I was at Joes and they are gearing up to carry them, and the guy said they are not as good as a PLB Aquafix or Terrafix.

I looked at them at a trade show here a couple of weeks ago. Look like a pretty cool setup. But with the initial cost and the monthly/annual fees, probably wouldn't take long to cost as much as the plb.

I think I would like to be able to hit the "just checking in" button when I am at Tuna town and staying later then I told the family and being able to check in while im in the Chesnimus or some other area without any cell coverage might be nice. Not sure if its worth the 100 bucks a year esxtra though.....
