Default Fish On!!

Bagged my first chinook today - a 28-pound buck that hit a Blue Fox spinner in the Salmon River! I caught catfish for 50 years in Texas before retiring and moving to Oregon, and I never tied into anything that pulled like this!
Timing was great too. Just a couple of hours after I landed my fish, a tanker truck overturned and spilled a load of treated sewage into the Salmon River near Otis.
Big thanks to the guy who netted my fish for me. I was so nervous I didn't think to ask his name!

And compared to the mugs on those cats, aren't those salmon just about the most beautiful thing around?

Congratulations, RL! I'm excited to hear of your success. Let's hope that the spill is not too serious and that Mother Nature and the people who are responding to the spill minimize the damnage. These salmon runs are precious. It seems that they are very resilient, but someday, the diesel oil and other contaminents might be too much. Let's hope that lessons are learned from this spill.

Checked the Salmon River about noon today - there are signs posted at the access points saying: "Unsafe Water, Sewage contamination. Keep Away."
Nevertheless, there were people there fishing.
