Lives in London and supported the Aytollah Khomeini's (sp?) proclomation that the writer Salman Rushdie should be killed for writing a book called Satanic Verses.
Cat Stevens had some great songs but it's kind of hard to seperate the person who wrote them from the person now. Not because of his religion but his political views. That's no different than the way I feel about Jane Fonda.

Yeah, and what was the one with the orange cat on the front. "Teaser and the Firecat" ? I enjoyed his music too. Too me it was a simpler and better time. Also as a Marine Vietnam veteran, I really don't think it is fair to compare him to "Hanoi Jane". I really don't like her.:frown: But I am not going there. I will look around today, I am sure I have those old 33's somewhere. How about Jim Croce? I really miss him too.

Don't recognize that one. My sis was an Alman Bros fan, so lots of that. lets see I had to still be in elementary school when I got that album - probably 3rd or 4th grade - oh that was too long ago

I think he was a music-less Muslim until his money ran out. I recall when he became Islamic he burned all his albums as some sort ceremony.

To this day he claims that he was misinterpreted, saying that was not saying that he supported vigilantism but instead was merely explaining what the Islamic punishment is for blasphemy.
He's also won many awards recognizing his work toward global peace, and in November of 2006 he released an album of pop songs called "An Other Cup".

Re: Cat Stevens?
Tea for the Tillerman is the shortest, but absolutely the best piece of lyrical music that anyone has ever written.
That's fact.

Re: Cat Stevens?
The problem is the usual lack of follow up that the mainstream media has on sensationalist stories that they ran before but have since turned out to be nothing.

you cant blame the media...they have been so busy over the last 20+ years. The only things they have had a chance to follow up on is Anna Nicole and OJ.

That is because, in my opinion, the media is market driven and the sensational is what sells. One need look no further than talk radio to see what is happening to our "news".
The media is very competitive and the market is driving the 'news'. We are worse off for it, too.
Cat Stevens was and remains one of my favorite singer/song writers.

Please, please lets be honest here - no talk radio broadcast casts themselves as an unbaised news outlet regardles if they are conservative or liberal. When you turn the dial to Mr Limbaugh or Mr Stulz you know what you are getting, baised talk and no one trys to hide that fact.. That is why they call it talk radio and not news.... Now if you want to discuss our newspapers or TV news that is another subject.
Just curious; a few months back Mr Stevens was denied entry into this country, why was that?

Re: Cat Stevens?
He pushed my normally liberal button with anti American sentiment in a Rolling Stone Magazine interview about 1977. (just to show you how far he went ) Find that interview, then decide. He was alright until then.

It doesn't matter that they don't promote themselves as unbiased, many people perceive them as delivering the "news", and take to heart what they say.
Perception is everything, and the mainstream media is having to compete with the perception that many people have, which is what is said on talk radio is the truth and the 'real news'. Thus the dwell more on the sensational, which is what fuels talk radio, liberal or conservative.
I hear it often from people.....

He was denied entry because his name appeared on a "no fly" list. He was deported, then allowed entry some time later. Since then they have "revamped" the way that people are identified and listed. Not sure how they did, maybe they ran the names prior to boarding instead of when the plane was in the air.
