Default downtown hotels??

My group of friends are planning our annual Christmas crawl through the pubs and bars downtown. We will be spending the night to keep us from driving home after a night of celebration I'm looking to this wealth of ifish knowledge to help us find a place to crash! Anyone have any leads for a decent place that does not cost an arm & a leg (I'd much prefer to spend my plastic on the fine beers that Portland has to offer) Location is not critical, as long as we are able to jump max or the trolley to bounce around, looking for likely watering holes. So, howbout it? Anyone have any suggestions?

Try using priceline for some of the downtown hotels. I've stayed at the Benson for $75. Nice and centrally located.

I've stayed at the Paramount. Nice place, a little cheaper than the others when I was looking.

Just get a cab or a designated driver - that is what we do when we go downtown. Its my turn next.

Dang! I thought $90 was a steal for that place.

Also try 5th avenue suites. Priceline pricebreakers man...no other way to go. Put an offer for 45% off the price they give ont he website. Almost always works even though they say they cap it at 40%.

Good luck and good job on being smart.

Also check out Trip Advisor. They're a great travel resource for realistic reviews of hotels and restaurants, as the reviews are by patrons. There are always the occasional loons who post scathing reviews, but unless you see a pattern I generally don't worry about it.

Embassy Suites on 3rd and Pine. It's a business man's hotel and is virtually empty on weekends. Ask for any specials. They always have a deal for Friday and Saturday nights.
Great old hotel and super service. It was named No.1 Embassy Suites in the country a couple of years ago. Portlad Steak and Chop house is on the main floor.
Also a great place to take the significant other for a special night out.
