Default Ilwaco report

I'd love to hear from anyone who was out near buoy 10 yesterday. I launched at Ft. Canby at about 8:00 AM and experienced a rather slow but otherwise perfect fishing day . Fished part of outgoing with 2 takedowns and no fish. There seemed to be a good bite at the Chinook area on the Wash. side about one hour into the tide. We could only pick up one fish during that bite and then it went dead. I was considering crossing the bar, but conditions were a bit marginal for my confidence and experience level, so didn't try it. Would love to hear from anyone who crossed the bar for information that I can use in future bar crossing decisions.

We crossed the bar at 10:00am. It was rather large, but, we experienced no problems. Fished Bouy #2. Double takedown within minutes. Hooked and landed 24-25 fish in an hour and a half(3 rods). Kept 6 between 12#-16#. All fish hooked were hatchery fish! All fish caught between 16-25 pulls. BOE, your divers are truly fish atracting magnets!!! Fished divers and Cut Plugs(No Flashers)and six foot leaders with a bead chain halfway. At one point I reeled up to check my bait. It came up with a squadron of "HO'S" in hot pursuit with one taking the bait right on top! Got 28 keeper crab at the wall. It just don't get any better than this!!!!!

Thanks for that report from Nuttinbutnet . I'm glad to hear that the fishing is still that good out there, and that you had no trouble. I was really tempted to cross myself. Now I wish I had after hearing your report. I went out there in my boat (18' trihull) for my first time in the ocean on Aug. 19. It was awsome and I've been wanting to do that again, but plan to jump in a little at a time as I learn. On my trip, I made sure to cross back before the ebb started to flow. Crossed back over at about high slack. From what I can learn, a person wants to avoid the outgoing current at all cost.Is that what you do? I'd love to hear anybody's wisdom in this area.

I have not had much luck crabbing when I fish out of Ilwaco, probably not putting the traps in the proper place. Have been placing them on the river side of Baker island, get a few, but no where near a limit. Where is the wall? Any help appreciated.
