Default Boat Trailer Registration

Do you do it?

I just got an application to renew the registration for my drift boat trailer ... it's 12 years old. I can't see the point of giving $30 to the State.

DMV says: You do not have to register it if it is a utility, boat, or horse trailer that is under 1,800 pounds "loaded weight." However, it's a good idea to title it because most law enforcement agencies and insurance companies want to see proof of ownership if it is ever stolen.

Pete...I don't license the drift boat trailer, but the sled is over 1800 lbs. so it gets licensed. As for proof of ownership...wouldn't the title work??

I licensed my boat trailer because it is over 1800#. Otherwise I see no reason to give in to yet another tax.
