I used to figure this kind of thing was uncommon but listed below are the stories in the Anchorage newspaper on bear attacks from just this year. These are just the ones where the bear wins (well usually it is a lose-lose thing). It's not including the defense of life and property instances where the bear looses. Those things scare the bleep out of me - sure adds a dimension to taking my bow or gun for a walk in the woods when there's stuff out there that will eat me.
