EZ limits
Razor clams at Long beach. Four salty dogs and about a million other guys.
Big chunkers we dug 4 limits in less than a 1/2 hour. Thanks Puffin, Hitekrdnk, Stickfish. It was fun.

Re: EZ limits
I went out there too and we got 5 limits within 45 minutes.
It was the first time I had ever dug Razors and what a blast.
Oh and tasty too!
Lets see, for $6.00 I could watch a movie....or dig clams. Hard choice isn't it

Re: EZ limits
Does anybody go anywhere on the central coast? I know that up north is the best, and I'm not trying to step on any feet with specific spots. Just general info. I've never gone before but am getting excited from all these reports and am thinking about trying. I've heard Agate Beach north of Newport produces some. What time is best? How much earlier than the peak low should you be out? I appreciate any help.

Re: EZ limits
Del ray was not good the last few days. 13 on thanksgiving and 8 yesterday.
oh well crabbing was very productive off Hammond. 4 limits in about 1-2 hrs.

Re: EZ limits
Bring a deck of cards and a fine cigar if you go to Long Beach. You'll need something to do after you quickly get your clams.

Re: EZ limits
I think I'd add some fine sipping whiskey to that list of required clam supplies
Lunch - Clams - ala Pilar. Back away from the kitchen - leave the house what a crappy time to start loosing weight. Seasoned flour, egg, panco, fry light olive oil, dry, dredge in beaver brand tartar sauce - walk away from the - WOW that was good. Just a small two clam sample - rest is for later.

Re: EZ limits
Clamming was very poor at Agate. I only got 3 for 1.5 hours. We started at 3:45 and left at 5:15.

Re: EZ limits
Shoot thats pretty tough results from Agate. Is there any other beaches in the central area that might be better to try?

Re: EZ limits
I got 13 there the last set of tides so there are a few there. The South Jetty is another place to try. The sand bars we clammed on this Summer and killed them disappear during the winter.

Re: EZ limits
Day two at Long Beach was much harder with surf shooting up the beach every 5 minutes or so. HiTekRdNek and I managed a limit. The head light I bought totally sucks. I'm gonna steal Mike's if I get the chance. Woody and Vickie had better luck .. they looked pretty happy at dinner afterwards.
Lesson learned .. dig the first day and don't bother if the surf is big.

Re: EZ limits
Yea, we had a great time. My best day clamming by far. HUGE clams and quick limits. Like they say, location, location, location. We overshot John and Mike and drove another mile or so down the beach and the difference was like night and day- We nailed 'em and they struggled

Finally finished cleaning clams and shucking oysters. had a great time this weekend with the other dogs. Thanks for going guys.
I just got back into digging these tasty critters last year. It's fun for the whole family. Give it a try next month.

Re: EZ limits
Went Saturday night just north of the Long Beach entrance. Got plenty, but not quite limits, and it required some work. Most people around me had 1/2 limits or less. Think next time I'll go farther north.
Lots of Crab right out of Ilwaco on Sunday morning (just out into the river, a little east from the red marker at the entrance to the Ilwaco channel), though. Clam and Crab dinner is hard to beat.

Re: EZ limits
Took my 2 granddaughters (5 and 10) on Sat. Perfect day, we loaded up on chantrells in the morning up in the Gifford Pinchot and dug our 45 clams in the afternoon at longbeech. The only thing cooler than that is having a portable video player in the truck for them, otherwise a guy could actually run out of patience after 350 miles or so! The little one said the water wasn't cold and that I should let her wade in a little, being the accomodating grandfather that I am, I let her and thats why her little teeth were chattering back to about clatskanine.

Re: EZ limits
Friday was good. 4 limits, in 1/2hr for 4 people. Took longer to drive to beach and back.
Saturday was decent, started a bit early but wanted to clam in daylight. another 4 limits in a little over an hour and a half. Back is still swore.
The best part were the dinner parties afterwards with fresh clams in spaghetti von-gol, accompanied with a slab of salmon from this past summer. Also indulged my guests with smoked tuna and smoked salmon appertizers with local goat cheese. I also had canned cranberry spread that my mother-in-outlaw made at the peak of the cranberry season on the penunsula. Clam chowder the night before.
Boy I just love the Long Beach coast. Now if I can get Cod Father to teach me which mushrooms to pick I'll be in heaven.

Re: EZ limits
Hey all....lookin to do some clammin sometime soon around the Long Beach area but not quite sure some things as I have never clammed here. I know razors are predominate there but is there other areas around there to dig for anything else? Also where can I find info on surf conditions? Thanks for the help
