Re: SI west side
I have seen maybe a dozen wood ducks in the past 5 years of hunting the west side and not one of them I had seen was after the month of october. If you wanna shoot a woodie id concentrate somewhere else

Westside is similar to the eastside in that both require a daily checkin on SI hunt days. However the westside is not open to hunt 7 days a week like the eastside. However, unlike the Eastside, there are no reservations, everyone draws a chip from a bag 1.5hrs prior to shooting light, based on how low a number you draw, you can pick the remaining blind as your number is called. The last guy in line has just as much a chance of hunting/not hunting as the first person in line.
Concerning Wood ducks, the nest boxes are all over, but I haven't seen a duck during hunting season.

Yes Lonnie, that was a typo, I meant the Northside.

Re: SI west side
I would say that this cold snap has probably pushed the last of the woodies south. There might be a few around still but if you want one this season you had better locate some fast.

Re: SI west side
It varies week by week, next hunt day is Friday the 23rd then every other day after that, but if there is a holiday in there then it is closed and open the day after:
Scroll to the end of this document, it is open the same days as the reservation days on the eastside that are all listed in here:

Look at the back of the Regs and there is a table of controlled hunts for SI. They are also the hunt days for both the Westside and Eastside and will tell you which days are youth only hunt days or not.
