Default Anyone using a propane gererator???

After being out for 2 days last week and only having a small generator, I have decided to take the plunge. I am leaning towards a protable propane fueled unit to eliminate the hassles of gas. I am looking at an Onan 6500 portable on wheels. They recomend a 50 gallon tank due to the large fuel draw during full load. Apparently this can cause the smaller tanks to ice up in the lines. I have numerous 5 gallon tanks so am wondering if anyone has experience with this really being a problem.

Any pros or cons would be appreciated.

I installed a propane converted 5000kvw Homelite generator in 1997. If you search the archives we've had some good conversations on the subject.

Note that LP fueled generators use a low pressure regulator.

If using LP bottles, you need to step-down the pressure or it will cause problems. Or have a propane tech help you set up the system so everything meshes properly.

My home tank that powers the furnace is low pressure, that low pressure line also feeds the generator.

Do they make a portable 6500 that runs on propane?
