Not so lucky buck
I got these in an email today; appears the buck thought he could jump higher then he could! That'll teach him for trying to sneak in after hours
The Oregon Trail State Veteran's Cemetary is in Evansville, WY for those wondering.... I had to look it up

Just as I thought.......The grass IS greener on the other side. I always had the feeling that getting there might kill me!

Re: Not so lucky buck
Yea that is what I was thinking too. I have seen a doe and a calf elk hung up on a wire fence so it does happen.

Re: Not so lucky buck
OUCH!!! What a terrible way for that beautiful buck to die.............
It DOES happen, I was on a stand one day and watched a young buck try to jump a fence and get all tangled up. He got out fairly fast, but I was beginning to think I was going to have to help him out.
What a beautiful rack!!!

Re: Not so lucky buck
On the bright side it was a buck and not a doe that has the potential to produce many more mulies in her lifetime.

Hmmm..... not sure I agree with that being a bright side. I'm thinking too bad this guy won't be passing on his genes anymore.

Wonder how long he lasted before dying? It looks like he pawed the ground a little while. :frown:

I noticed that too. I just showed that to my daughter and its a shame for a great buck to die like that - bummer, sure wish he was standing broadside in front of me instead. That would have been more noble!

Re: Not so lucky buck
Saw the same thing out of Nehalem about 15 years ago. Residence had a similar fence except with arrow head lance like points on top, not sharp of course. Cow elk tried same manuver and lost same way. Lance penetrated her gut leaving her hanging there. Not a pretty sight.:frown:
