Lions for Lambs
I saw this movie over the weekend and found it quite good. I had heard that it had "scathing" reviews, but the preview looked good so the wife and I checked it out.
There was a small part of the film where 2 students present an idea to their class where the junior year of high school students is replaced by 1 of 3 different year long commitments of the students choice that involved "engagement" into the troubles that the county is facing domestically.
It was an interesting concept. To make something like this happen would require a lot of parties to cross lines and concentrate on the greater good of the country, requiring everyone to put any differences aside. What really amazed me is that after the film, my wife was talking to her sister who is a freshman at a local school and she said that has been recently assigned a report that also suggested something very similar to this.
For a society that tends to raise kids (not all) who could care less about anything outside of themselves, video games, and partying it up at night, it would be huge eye opener into the needs of the county.
I hope that this doesn't turn into a flame session by those who disagree with Cruise and his different beliefs, because that is not what this should be focusing on. Robert Redford who directed this film provided some wonderful insight an if you have a teen kid at home who is straying, I would recommend taking them to this movie.
