Re: Corsair "A" models, any better?
Shimano replaced the original *** Corsair that I had with the updated one. It is better but I would not buy another. I would go with an ambassedor instead.

Re: Corsair "A" models, any better?
I had a friend give me a Corsair 400, don't know if it's an "A" model or not, but I prefer the workings of my Ambassaduer 6500C3.
The only thing I like better about the Corsair is the large casting release button that make it easy to use with gloves. The drag doesn't go light enough for me when I use it on a downrigger, so I get a fair amount of early releases when setting my gear. Other than that, mine has worked fine.

I have to agree with Jeffhead, they replaced mine but I wouldnt buy another. Just prefer my amassaduers better.
Dogfish the way you can tell an "a" over the origianl is that the "a"s are Gold and the originals are silver. If you still have an old one send it back to Shimano and they will replace them.

I have both the A and the original. The original is my back-up.Firedog, are you saying that they will replace the original Corsair with the A version for no charge?

Re: Corsair "A" models, any better?
I had the original Silver one. Made me lose fish.
Got the upgraded gold model, It free spooled and broke a plastic gear and I brought that fish in by hand.
Then I took it into fisherman's Marine and they'll do an even exchange for Something else. Or pay the difference on something better.
I ended up changing my Shimano corsair for a 5600 Abu Garcia Ambasedeur and so far love it. I also ahd to pay $5.00 difference on that trade cause the Abu was $5.00 more.
I have heard good things and I have other Shimano Spinning reels and they are very good. Don't know who Engineered the Corsair But it's a LOSER!

Stay away from Corsair.
