So this years Fall chinook run "so far" has been pretty lousy..
Whats everyones opinions on how the Winter steelhead return will go???

I think they are partially related... Poor ocean conditions for outmigrating salmon are poor conditions for steelhead too... However, steelhead tend to rear in completely diffent portions of the ocean.

Our steelhead here in Alaska are at all time high's... Something out there is really good for them right now.... Good chance u will have fair to good returns.....

I think people are talking about the overall run not generalized locations or the ability of one person to harvest fish..(the overall numbers returning so far)..I too had one of the best (number wise) summer steelhead seasons ever....also... even though the overall return numbers were very low on the rivers I fished.

and congratulations on your fishing

as far as winter steelhead, me and buddy have already hooked 2 on a popular oregon river on a very popular run yesterday, as well as landing a very nice, semi fresh 12lb coho buck, we were the only boat on the river.... and thats after hearing reports that river was dead..
