Re: Boat Shopping,
SeaAngell,
Click on the search feature on the navigation bar and type "glass vs. aluminum", "which boat" or a specific boat manufacturer (like North River, Grady White, etc). You'll probably get more information and opinions than you can use. Good luck on the search!

Re: Boat Shopping,
Aluminum. Reasons weight and room. The alum boat is going to weigh something like 20-30% less. Easier to trailer and a lower horsepower motor will give the same performance and use less fuel. For the same size, the interior of an alum boat is more roomy. Glass takes up a lot of interior space, much thicker sides, transom etc.. Just my opinion. Guys with glass boats are always surprised at how roomy my NR is compared to their boats.
But this one is sure to start a lot of debate.

Re: Boat Shopping,
Go look at both and make your choice based on your own opinion .Like stated above none of us really have an opinion on which is best. I will say this the glass guys are just really not that well informed.(that ought to do it)

You might consider going to Boats Anonymous and they might cure of the addiction to buy a boat.
Good Luck;

Re: Boat Shopping,
Glass is the proper material for saltwater boats.
Aluminum is for sleds.
Diesel.
Sea Sport.
The above is for unlimited funds. I could change my mind on most of it, except the glass part.

Re: Boat Shopping,
Are you doing most of your fishing in the ocean? How far will you tow it? Do you have a capability to pull a heavy boat?
I am a die hard aluminum type guy, but really for the area you are in I would say glass. You would really want the weight of the glass to make for a smoother ride in the chop.

Re: Boat Shopping,
We have a slip in Illawco, & have an old slow boat, a reinell, have friends with a hewes... go to the Portland and Seattle boat show every year, buy the boat trader every week.... getting closer, towing with a ford 250, but we wouldn't tow it back and forth, we'd leave it at the house up there.
I know I will find it... just hope I have the $$$ when I do . LOL.
Its my passion, not my husbands, I am dragging him crabbing and clamming this weekend.

Re: Boat Shopping,
Have you considered an Oregon dory? Google "The Dory Page" and take a look.

Re: Boat Shopping,
SeaAngell you are on the right track. Figure out what you are going to use it for then go to the Portland show in January with a blank check from the home equity loan. Thats what I did 2 years ago. I had an aluminum custom built for how I fish and have no regrets. This is serious stuff here, after all some people get married more often than they buy a new boat.

Re: Boat Shopping,
SeaAngel, that 21' Arima that you found on Craigslist would be a great setup for the price for what you want. Even as an Arima owner, I recognize there are better boats for tuna (deeper V and self bailing are the two biggies as I see it) but that one is more than adequate and for that price, is a steal. A new one would be twice that.
