Official OSU vs. UO Civil War Smack Talk Thread
Looks like the WSU game is in the bag. Ducks still have to play UCLA (Go Bruins!), but it's Civil War time again!
Hopefully the bye week will get Bernard healed up and he can go out with a bang! Moevoa looks like he is taking charge of the offense .
I wouldn't trade the ANGRY BEAVER Defense for any in the nation!!! They are going to bust up whatever sacrificial lamb the ducks put behind the center!
Prepare for humiliation in your house! I'll be there (Bro' has season tickets) and hopefully down dancing on the " O" when it's all over
GO BEAV'S!!! CRUSH THE DUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beavers did look pretty darn good tonite didn't they? The pain is coming for the Ducks. I cannot resist saying that at least we had a plan "B "as far as our Quarterback goes.
Go Beavers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry Ducks... You're going 8-4! Too many injuries now, a few weeks ago, different story, but now, well, you better look back, not forward

Re: Official OSU vs. UO Civil War Smack Talk Thread
I have been calling a Beav victory at Autzen all year. I just wish the Ducks were still #2 and the Beavs could knock them out of the championship game.
I have many co-workers who are quackers that were all singing the blues Friday!! They are scared of the beavs!!
GO BEAVS!!
Looks like back to back National Championships will only be in Corvallis.

I was at OSU from '78-83' and we did not have a football team. I lived through too many games where the ducks gave it to the Beavers pretty hard.
This year

Re: Official OSU vs. UO Civil War Smack Talk Thread
It was sad to see Dixon go down, he was obviously playing incredibly well. But the fact that he tore his ACL in the Arizona State game and they tried to cover it up? Bellotti should be shot for that! Not only could it (jury is still out) cause him further injury from more tears, how on earth could they think an option quarterback in a spread offense was going to NOT go down? And then to expect a drop back quarterback (Leaf) to execute without changing the offense to accommodate him? Fools!
Watch this: ducks are now 8-2. Beavers are 7-4. Next week ducks have to go to UCLA where they will lose and be 8-3. Beavers have a bye.
Civil War? Beavers defense is pretty healthy from the bye week and the Ducks still are in trouble, in spite of it being at Autzen.
ducks lose, both teams 8-4.
Beavers get the Sun, or maybe even the Holiday Bowl depending on who else in conference beats each other up. ducks get a lesser bowl.
Beavers win, ducks lose.
Look to their November and December records for accurate trending. Beavers finish hot, ducks falter. Year after year.
Beavers 9-4, ducks 8-5 for the season.
Whoda thunk? A Beaver.

Do you guys watch college football?
UCLA sucks, the Ducks win going away.
As for the Civil War, The Ducks will have righted the ship by then and they will roll baby roll. On a neutral field the Beavers have a chance, but Autzen is anything but neutral.
Go Ducks Go!

Let's be realistic....UCLA has played really well or really bad all season. Knowing that the Ducks are depleted and its there last home game of the season, they are going to rip them apart and the Ducks will most likely be limping back to Autzen with even more injuries.
My prediction for civil war: the Beavs defense is going to score more points than the whole Ducks offense.

I love the Beavs! They are so confident when they win! Weren't you calling for Riley's head at the beginning of the season? Where was the confidence then? "OH yeah, we always win at the end of the season" Try winning at the beginning once. Then at least you will have a chance at greatness!
GO DUCKS!!!! we don't give up on you when you lose a game or two! It was a great run! Let's see where did the preseason prognosticators pick the Ducks to finish?????

This is just choice. 7th. They will finish 5th. Way to go. The Beavers were picked 5th, they will finish 4th or 3rd.
It is a bit more gratifying to go out winning rather than losing. Or is a quick start and a favorable home schedule leading to a lousy ending going to feel really good?
I find it interesting that the duck (formerly) faithful keep talking in terms of “what ifs”. But the fact is the Beavers lost the number 1 kick returner in the NATION (Sammy Strouther), and their really good punter walked out on the team just before the season started. Just those two players alone, given how well the special teams has played for the Beavers, would have made a huge difference. And Strouther is a great receiver as well.
Now, in addition they lost their all-american selection right tackle on the offensive line very early in the season – the key position to keep blind side hits to a lefty quarterback. Their starting running back, who is still the second leading rusher in Beaver history and number 10 in PAC 10 History has been out and wounded with a bad shoulder, yet continues to play. And their starting quarterback can’t even throw the ball from a shoulder separation several weeks ago. The backup comes in and wins two PAC 10 games. The list goes on and on.
The Beavers play through, are grabbing momentum, not whining about injuries, and have won 5 out of their last 6 games.
The best Bellotti can do?
Say, “I’m not talking about injuries anymore. L”

Re: Official OSU vs. UO Civil War Smack Talk Thread
I'll throw my two cents in as well. Hindsight is always 20/20, but still, I can't believe coach lets Dixon play with a torn ACL? I was also hoping the best for the Ducks, even though I am a true Beaver believer. My prediction was that the Ducks would be #2 and heading for a National Championship and then the Beavers would knock them out of it!
Be interesting to see how the Ducks respond down in L.A. next weekend. In any case, it's the Civil War, and anything can happen. I'm much more confident that my Beavs can pull it off than I was even a couple of weeks ago.
Go BEAVS; let's do some down in Autzen!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Official OSU vs. UO Civil War Smack Talk Thread
I just have to make a couple more comments here. If anyone is offended I want to apologize in advance #1 Belotti is a pompous -ss. We will see if he still has his job next year. Uncle Phil cannot be too happy. #2 I hate fair weather fans as much as anybody. As a true member of the Beaver nation I know we lose more than we win at times. But you are a fan or your not. I know several Duck " Fans" in my family and among friends and to listen to them you would think the world has ended. One of my favorite comments came from my mother in law who stated , and I quote. Football season is over now I am going to watch the Basketball team. She really is a fan but come on. Even if you finish say 8 and 3 or 8 and 4 that is pretty darn good. There has been alot of worse years that that. There were years I would of loved to have the Beav's have that record. Who do these Duck fans think they are? Possibly Notre Dame? They are getting their's this year. Uncle Phil has alot of money but the Pope could buy him out with pocket change. Money helps a program but it does not win National championships. It makes you decide to play a Kid ( Dixon) who should never been on the field. Oh I am sorry, according to this mornings paper Belotti took himself out of the decision. I have to call B.S. on that one Mike. If you are the Head coach you are responsible for every Decision. If those are the kind of choices that need to be made to win a championship I will quit being a fan. I do not watch any pro football for that same reason.Look at the mess they have as well as Baseball. People like Barry Steriod Man Bonds. He did not get that big eating steak and potatoes. "Roid rage"? Ask his girlfriend about that. You cannot ask Chris Benoit, his wife or son. The point being Mr. Belotti is that not only did you lie you cheated.:frown: Lets all hope that Dennis Dixon is going to be O.K. And as for fair weather fans, Maybe they should sell a flag kit with all the schools logos on it. That way you can fly the flag with whatever team is winning. There a a few in my neighborhood. One guy put the duck flag out a week ago and now its down. Same with another guy with the USC flag. I have lived here foa a few years and never saw those flags before. Well the Stained Glass Beaver stays in my front window 365 days a year as well as the Beaver flag. I am a fan Win or lose. I love what the guy in a previous post called us. " Rodents of unusual Size. I like that. So if I have ruffled any feahers or anybody else I apologize. Actually I have two weeks off to fish and am waiting for the river to drop a little.Maybe I am just bored. Go Beavers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. Did anyone else notice the wrong Beaver flag flying at the Arizona Oregon game on thursday? They have all the flags of the Pac10 around the stadium. They had the happy Beaver flag not the angry Beaver up. Maybe someone in the Pac10 ought to call Arizona and give them a correct flag. A fan notices those kind of things .

Re: Official OSU vs. UO Civil War Smack Talk Thread
Go Beavs!!
Let's face it, for the past 5-7 years, it's been the Beavs that have played until the end of the season, whereas the Ducks have kind of faded. That's just the truth to the matter, for some reason the Ducks start out good but don't finish well...too bad, it would have been nice for them to have a chance at going to a major bowl.
Prediction: The Ducks will lose to UCLA, they have no momentum, they have lost their star, they couldn't pull it together against Arizona and surely won't against UCLA. The Bruins are either real good or real bad but expect them to be good enough at home to win against a dejected Duck team. The Ducks don't have a backup QB that can lead them.
Prediction: The Beavs will win 29-18 against the Ducks.

Re: Official OSU vs. UO Civil War Smack Talk Thread
Without Dixon it will be a tough fight for the Ducks. I was sad to see him get hurt. I have little allegiance to either team, but I do like to see a local team do well nationally. The Ducks were really on a roll with an offense that was really clicking. Now that they have fallen off the top...I would like to see the Beavers beat them at Autzen and break the home team streak of the Civil War or "Toilet Bowl" as it was back in the day.

I think they changed the name from Toilet Bowl to Apple Cup, happened a few years ago.

Re: Official OSU vs. UO Civil War Smack Talk Thread
The Dead Duck
A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary examination room. As she lay her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest. After a moment or two, the vet shook his head sadly and said, "I'm so sorry, your duck's season is over." The distressed owner wailed, "Are you sure?
"Yes, I am. The duck is dead," he replied. "How can you be so sure," she protested, "I mean, you haven't done any testing of him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something."
The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room, and returned a few moments later with a black Labrador Retriever. As the duck's owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head.
The vet patted the dog and took it out, and returned a few moments later with a beautiful cat. The cat jumped up on the table and also sniffed delicately at the bird. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room. The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck."
Then the vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill which he handed to the woman. The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill. "$150!", she cried, "$150 just to tell me my duck is dead?!!"
The vet shrugged. "I'm sorry. If you'd taken my word for it, the bill would have been $20. But what with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it all adds up."

Re: Official OSU vs. UO Civil War Smack Talk Thread
The Ducks are injured and will lose out the rest of the way. I believe the Beavs lead the Pac 10 in INT's and I think are #1 in the nation in run defense. Combine that with the loss of Dixon and other injuries and you will have a Beaver win at Autzen.
As much as I dislike Belotti I was actually pulling for the Ducks the other night because I really thought they had the most powerful offense in the NCAA and would be #1 at the end of the year (as long as they kept the turnovers down). Before they game I told my dad that I thought Leaf should have been taking a majority of the snaps leading up to that game so they wouldn't have to use Dixon unless needed. Big difference in the game plan from one QB to the next. Easier to adjust from Leaf to Dixon then Dixon to Leaf. Not sure if I would blame Dixon more or Belloti more (if either), but Belotti is desperate for a title. He needs to realize that a black cloud looms over him as a head coach at UO even though he has had success.
I hated to Dixon go down and would never wish that on any player. I realize that many people on this site are Duck fans as are many people of our state. They were headed for a national championship which would have been great not only for UO, but for the rest of the Pac-10 as well.
I really wasn't surprised to see disaster strike the Duck team.
GO BEAVS!!!!!!!!!

Two years ago when Clemens went down, the Ducks kept winning. Half of the time they were using Leaf. If I remember correctly the Ducks won the battle of the back up quarterbacks with OS rather handily. Don't count the Ducks out just yet! GO DUCKS!!

It'll take Dixon being out to even make the Civil War an interesting game. It amazes me that so many oversized rodent fans would be proud to beat the Ducks at half strength. I guess any win for the Beavers is a good win.

As usual, a hemp-induced haze must be afflicting duckdom into forgetting the results of the 2005 Holiday Bowl (from"goducks.com"):
Oregon 7 0 0 7 14
Oklahoma 3 0 14 0 17
Must not gotten the official's homer calls in that one!
Yes, they did beat the Beavers, at Autzen, on a down year (5-6) for the Beavs. Quite the accomplishment.
Now on the other hand, in spite of all of OSU's injuries, when the Beavers beat the quacks at Autzen this year, all we will hear about is the whine whine of how they beat an (will be) 8-3 team who lost their QB.
The Beavers can't make the ducks tougher, so yeah, disirregardless of who plays it will feel just fine to beat them, thank you.

Can't believe how the ducks whine about injuries. Are you poor guys down to your last dozen blue chippers?
Heck, the Beavs are playing a defensive end at QB.

<quote>It is a bit more gratifying to go out winning rather than losing. Or is a quick start and a favorable home schedule leading to a lousy ending going to feel really good? <quote>
Oh I see now! It's a plan the Beavers have of starting slow and sneaking up on the front runners. Good plan! I know, Bellotti screwed up the whole season with bad decisions. The Ducks are doomed. Might as well not even show up for the Civil War! Congratulations Beavers! Dang State of Oregon can only put up two 8 win teams a year. I'm moving to Oklahoma! Not!

Re: Official OSU vs. UO Civil War Smack Talk Thread
So we only beat the Beavers by 7 points instead of 57.
Ducks will still win the Civil War without Dixon.
The one thing that makes me sick is all the gloating by Beaver fans about Dennis Dixon season ending injury!! Totally classless!! of course that is what you expect from them.
GO DUCKS!!!

Re: Official OSU vs. UO Civil War Smack Talk Thread
Strange. I haven't seen a single post on this thread or any other from Beavers who have been "gloating by Beaver fans about Dennis Dixon season ending injury".
????
Nobody likes to see an athlete go down like that with an injury.
Gloating about the fact that he is out causing all the whining and "what if's" from the duck fans is what is happening.

Dixon is half the team. I doubt that. I thought there were 11 people on a football Team. No one is gloating about him getting hurt either. When winning a football game is more important than serious injury I have an issue with that. You might want to read the Oregonian today. See how many guys on Oregon State that are hurt. This is addition to what we have already lost earlier in the season. No one can change what has already happened. It is what it is. A win over the ducks is my personal highlite for the year. Even if half of your team is disabled. With that all I can say is Go Beavers!!!!!!!!!!!!

So Beaver fans make you sick? And they are classless?
Did you happen to watch the OSU UW game? Jake Locker was knocked unconscious for 15 minuets, he was taken from Reeser Stadium on a stretcher.
With about 5 minuets remaining in the fourth quarter, Jake rejoined the team in street cloths.
Beaver Nation responded with a thunderous ovation.
That is the kind of fans we have.

How do you make duck cookies?
Put them in a bowl and beat them for three hours. Then bake.
Go Beavs.

Re: Official OSU vs. UO Civil War Smack Talk Thread
Bad situation here...2 duck alumni and one beav (oh, a little 4 yr old duckling... ) Last year, I had to wear a t-shirt with beavs on one side and ducks on the other...still got hammered cause I wore the Duck side on the front...sheesh...what's a mom to do, eh? (actually, I side with the Beaver cause he's soooo outnumbered. ) Haven't watched the beavs too much...did watch the Ducks...too bad about Dixon...Leif isn't gonna get up to speed.).We tailgate at home...great fun...duck and beav stuff ALL OVER THE PLACE!!!! Truly a civil war right in front of the big screen!!! Can't wait!!!

Re: Official OSU vs. UO Civil War Smack Talk Thread
After watching a couple of games early this season, I did not think the Ducks would loose a game this year. I unfortunatly was wrong. When several of our best offensive players were hurt, and out for the season, I thought we could still win but I was surprised at how easy the remaining players made it look.
I remember all of the anti duck people claiming that Oregon had not played any good teams yet, and how they mostly became silent after the USC, and Arizona state games. Now I am hearing the anti ducks geting louder again after a duck loss, and the loss of another excelent player. You should all realize that we still have some excelent players and are still playing for a possible conference championship. The Ducks did not fold when Dixon went down, (actualy they did for a few minuites) but still made a game out of it.
Maby we can't be national champs this year without Dixon and the other injured starters, I don't think the Dallas Cowboys would have won the superbowls without Aikman, Irvin, and Novacheck.
In other words, the season did not turn out as well as some of us were hoping for, but we are still in the top 10 nationaly and I don't think we are done playing football yet.
ps, I think the Beavers should have played in the NC game a few years ago and I know they would have won it that year.

You mean the ones wearing orange and black? A coed got an F in one class at OSU and the average GPA of the University went up.

Re: Official OSU vs. UO Civil War Smack Talk Thread
When I graduated from high school in 1990, a person needed a 3.0 GPA to get into U of O, and a 2.75 GPA for OSU. I ended up at U of O. 'nuff said.
Congrats U of O on winning the NCAA mens cross country championship today, unlike Beaver fan, you will not see the roads full of Oregon flags on cars tomorrow.
I'm making no excuses, Ducks will roll the Beavers, no what ifs needed.

If you saw the OS vs. WSU game the beavers put on a cross county event only they were carrying a football! Same things likely to happen on Dec. 1.

Probably because something like 3 people in the state follow cross country! Congratulations nonetheless - the PAC-10 continues to be the "conference of champions!"
As an aside, I did a little googling on the Duck/Beavers comparative records. In 110 Civil War meetings, the Ducks lead the series 55-45-10 with both team recording impressive winning streaks. Particularly, between 1959 and 1974 the Beavers posted a 13-2-1 CW record; the Ducks followed suit between 1975 and 1987 with a 12-0-1 record. The 0-0 tie, in the 1983 season marked a low point Oregon sports and all of collegiate football history with remarkable offensive ineptitude on both sides of the ball. Here is the wikipedia Civil War site:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_W...otball_game%29
Also intersting are the Duck's and Beaver's records during this decade. The Ducks have managed to amass a total of 66 victories while the Beaver's win total stands at 61.
What stands out from these comparisons is the remarkably similar success both teams have shared both against each other and against the rest of their respective schedules. It seems that many Duck fans claim ultimate football superiority in this great state, but the results from the gridiron simply does no back that claim up! Particulary in recent years, BOTH of these teams have played significant roles in the National Title race and BCS standing, and I expect that BOTH teams will continue to do so.
In the meantime, I will be cheering my beloved Beavers on to a great finish to what started out as a disappointing 2007 campaign. You can look for me at Autzen on December 1....I'll be the orange-clad lunatic embedded deep within a sea of Green and Yellow Quackers.
GWH
PS: My condolences to Dixon and the Ducks...that was a disappointing way to end their impressive run at the Title game. I only wish that a full-strength Beaver team was headed down to face-off with a full-strength Duck team....win, lose, or draw.
GO BEAVERS!

Re: Official OSU vs. UO Civil War Smack Talk Thread
Being new to Oregon, I thought the "civil war" was a refrence to the original, or maybe a movement to stop the Tweekers. Now I know why so many of my neighbors changed hats, and are painting over there green and yellow trucks with black and orange paint. Geee- even my bulldogs(Fresno State) could pound the Ducks now .

Not a problem, we have a coaching staff that actually uses the depth on the offensive side of the ball and have plenty of guys ready to fill his shoes if needed. GO BEAVS!!!
