Go to tech tips, and look up eyefish's tutorial on digging clams with a shovel. You can also go to funbeach.com and go to the WDFW link where they also have picture tutorials on using shovels and clam guns. Now go to Long Beach, Washington on friday & saturday after Thanksgiving around 4PM. You will find thousands of fellow clam diggers along the beach. Watch what everyone is doing and duplicate, you will soon have your own limit. Also check out the "Cleaning Razors" tutorial in the tech tips. Good Luck!

Yes, there are clams at Agate Beach and the South Beach. I went the last set of tides and got 13 at Agate and went to South Beach and got 5. Heard a good report and chased it. The people who were there said that it had definately been better the 2 previous nights there. We used head lamps in the surf after it got dark. The people on dry sand used a lantern and the group stomp method and got a few too. I will be at either place on Fri and Sat night working off the turkey. It has been getting dark a little before 5:30. The surf looks like it might lay down a little and make it easier. I have found that for me they do not show as well when the surf has been big. Good Digging.

The last set of minus tides (last month) I called the clamming number in the Lincoln City phone book, and it said clamming was open from Siletz bay North to the Columbia River. It was a recording, so no way to ask why. I know they wouldnt draw a line in the sand for demoic acid or paraletic shellfish poisoning. Does anyone know why they would do that? If you have the coast phonebook, check to make sure its open.

Here is a link to some info on clam closures. Dept of Ag has control of testing and safety. http://oregon.gov/ODA/FSD/shellfish_status.shtml
