Default After market electronic Ignition conversion

I have a Koffler Jet with a Ford 302. I am considering replacing the distributor and points with an electronic ignition. Has anyone done this conversion on a marine engine? Opinions?

Any advise will be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Mark

Ocean, I did this myself about a year ago. Just went to Baxter auto parts and went through their Mallory ignition catalog. It was spendy but well worth it.

I converted a Chevy 181ci 4 cylinder. The only hard part was aligning the oil pump and the distributor drive pin. A long flat screwdriver does the job. Never looked back and the motor is reliable like the day is long.

I have a Mallory Uniflie electronic ignition on my Alumaweld 302 and it works flawlessly.
It was on the boat when I bought it, but I've had it out to replace the motor a year ago. I don't know if there's a marine only distributor, mine is not and I may be taking my life in my own hands when starting but I'm not too worried. As far as installation its just three wires from the distributor to the coil(red to + green and tan to -) and it works.

I put one in my boat too. It was an after market product.... Can't remember the name of it just now...
The tricky part was I had to buy a module so it would work with my shifter. Let me see if I can find the info for you.

Since I added the module it has worked like a champ. The motor hardly turns before it starts. I love it

Look here:
http://www.pertronix.com/ignitor.htm

Then call them to get a match for your application. They will want boat/engine model info and serial numbers, and distributor model and serial numbers if you can find them.

Then, call summitracing.com and order up the part(s) at the best price.
