30/06 to 35 wallen????
One of the guys at work has a 30/06 dbl bolt he said I could take it off his hands for $150.00, but I already have a 30/06, but would love to have it reamed out to a 35.
Anyone out here have that done????
If so, what would it run to have done by a gunsmith.
Thanks Norski.

Re: 30/06 to 35 wallen????
Can't ream a 30cal out to 35cal.....but a new barrel would fix ya right up.
An easier conversion would be reaming it out to .300win mag and opening the bolt face and re-riviting a new extractor....easy.

You can have it rebored to .35 I've done a Ruger 30-06 to .35 Whelen and it shoots like a house a fire. Oregunsmithing in Pendelton did the work. Would I do it again? Probably not, '06 seems more versatile for the hunting I do but the .35 Whelen is a cool round.

Re: 30/06 to 35 Whalen????
Whats the difference Remington Verse Ruger?? Like I said if it can be done I would love to have one, not to knock anyone here as I think alot of you guys have more knowledge on rifles than I do, so I ask, I don't want to get a new barrel, and than I say it's only money, than it has to do with, how many times are you going to use it.
My 30/06, 300, 7mm, 270, or any others I have well do just fine, on what I want to shoot, but a .35 would fit in the safe just fine.

Re: 30/06 to 35 wallen????
No difference between the two, both long actions. Remingtons are push feed and some Rugers are control round feed or push feed or a variation of the two. But that has nothing to do with the cartridge except for bolt face size...your chamber dimensions are in the barrel. You can take your Remington 700 BDL and have it rebarreled (recommend this route) or have it rebored to .35 Whelen.
The Whelen is a great close range cartridge loaded with heavy bullets, i.e. 250g pushed about 2400-2500fps.

Re: 30/06 to 35 wallen????
It would be a nice choice, but I like the 338-06 better. I think they have a better selection of bullets in 338 then 35. It would be very easy to have it rebarreled to whatever caliber you like as long as the bolt face was the same and if it needed opened up it still wouldnt be a problem. You can find some good deals on barrels on gunbroker all the time

Re: 30/06 to 35 wallen????
In 1990 when I sent my Rem700 to Shilen it cost me about $550. They trued the bolt lugs, face, etc. Today I'd just get the new Ruger Hawkeye in 358 Win and give up 50-100fps. New trigger on those Rugers is a major reason(Timney trig. cost $80). Plus they're matte blued.

Re: 30/06 to 35 wallen????
There's a smith in Cottage Grove that rebores 06' to 35 Whelen for around $140. Check out "gunsamerica.com" and search 35 Whelen.

And, those Hawkeyes might be rather accurate....by chance I just loaded up ammo for a friend's Hawkeye in .358. First attempt at loading for it, consistently under an inch with those big .35 cal bullets. Be a good 250 yard gun for anything you care to shoot with it.
