Default Morons in the News ---BUSTED!!!

Sometimes the bad guys get caught. I fished Buoy 10 on Sunday and have a funny story. We had the radio set to channel 68 waiting for someone when two guys started talking. The first was in the ocean, the second on the river. The folks from the ocean said they were "killing them", the river guy asked "how many they had". The ocean guy said "20 for 5 people" and they were coming in now to go to Ilwaco. A 3rd voice came on saying "hey don't you know the ocean has a 2 fish limit"? No further voices on the radio. No less than 5 minutes later the CG and OSP were out in full force. They stopped all boats coming in and boarded them. One boat in particular was boarded, then 2 CG boats came over and escorted.

What is the fine on 10 extra coho? Better have been some good eats!!!

Next time before they tell the world they broke the law, they will think twice.

Its amazing to me how many people are clueless about the rules and such. Over the weekend fishing at Buoy 10, we had someone ask us why we were keeping the fish we caught? We told them they were silvers. They had been releasing all their fish, could not distinguish between a coho and chinook, did not know where the adipose fin was and didn't know that a Coho was also known as Silver. I guess if they keep on releasing all fish I'm okay with it.

But after a short lesson they knew enough to tell the difference. I guess I am surprised some don't go out with this information before hand.

If I'm not mistaken, those illegals are valued at $500 per fish.

I think the fine is 150 and up depending on what the warden decides, at least that's what the fish cop told us

If they had 10 fish over the limit, some of them must have wild, too. I think the fine is greater for wild fish kept. Plus I believe the fish cops confiscate illegal fish, too. Wonder what they do with 'em?

Hopefully the poachers lost their gear, their boat, and possibly their vehicle that helped to deliver the boat to the launch.

I got checked by WDFW enforcement on Saturday at Sekiu. These guys were nice, quick with their procedure, and we were back fishing in about 3 minutes. I felt sorry for them, as they were in a 12 foot zodiak with a little 50 hp johnson on the back. What a way to spend the day.

I had an aquaintance that was a reserve for the WDFW, and they would take the confiscated fish to either a senior center or to one of the local food banks. They also took some of the poached deer to the local jails and prisons, but that was stopped after some of the crooks started complaining. This was about 12 years ago, but Mike said it was extremely taboo to take the fish home. Kind of like taking marijuana from a bust home, a big NO-NO.

If I was a cop, what would be wrong with taking some confiscated "things" home? It'd be more incentive to be a cop in my opinion. Sure, crummy hours and crummy pay, but the benefits rule....as the cop planes out in his 895 hp 13' cataraft. I'm sure all that evidence really gets destroyed.

When I was in high school and we had a keg at one of our parties, the cops took the full keg, the bottles of alchohol, and any other things they could confiscate. Funny thing here, why couldn't we have our tap back and why wasn't anyone arrested? Exactly. I scratch your back, we take keg.
