Default Blown out of porportion by hunters

Everytime we have a thread about poaching, somebody proposes that the legal system should pop out his eyes, put'em in a jar and leave them on a railroad track and then lock him a small room with a large dog suffering from diarrhea.

My point is that I think we go a bit overboard. Put in the proper perspective, poaching is no different than other low-level theft.

low level??? you steal a pair of jeans big deal they can't reproduce but if you poach a deer or elk how many animals are you taking if that animal was able to reproduce during it's lifetime...that's the difference and it's a big difference. and when you steal from a store you are stealing from a company and when you poach a deer or elk you are stealing from me and all the other hunters that's why we take it so personal...

Wow, did he really just say this on here? As far as I'm concerned people who violate fish and game laws should be prosecuted to the fullest extent. They are low level scum committing high level crimes in my book.

My thought on poaching is very simple...Get caught poaching, lose your " rights" to hunt or fish for a minimum of 5 years if not longer. Not to mention losing your weapons and support vehicles that were used in the offense.

Very simple if you ask me...

You really think most poachers buy a hunting and fishing license?

A pair of jeans has a value and a clear line of ownership. What is the value of a deer? How much money can the state show they invested in the deer?

From what I can see, not buying a license and tag is a failure to pay a tax. The dollar amount is about the same as a pair of jeans.

I can`t beleive I just read that. I find it hard to beleive that any true sportsman would think that these kind of crimes are low level and that we are just making a big deal out of it. It truely is a big deal and affects all of us.
If these crimes don`t bother you that much and you care so little about our wildlife resourses I can only conclude that the regulations probably mean very little to you as well.
