IFISHSTOCK........Sat. 9/8
This Saturday is the 2nd annual IFishstock party. This is THE.....social event of the year. Even the dress code is very formal, what was it...green or red plaid? Ok, very informal seeing how most of us were fresh off the bay. We had a great time last year, good food and great people. I met lots of Ifish members and looking forward to meeting a bunch more.
If your looking to fish and without a boat, check the trip trader out. Should be some decent fishing around.
See you at the party,
Gregg

Re: IFISHSTOCK........Sat. 9/8
Unfortunately I won't be able to make it to Ifishstock. I'd love to come, but work comes first as always.
But...I do have something to say with no harm intended towards the hard work put in by Jen or anybody else.
For those who care, (and you should) Shilo Inn owner Mark Hemstreet is a huge "behind the scenes" anti-union political activist. He donates significant sums of money to ultra conservative political candidates, causes and ballot measures. I and many others I know will never give that man or his company one cent of our money. If you believe in Labor Unions or truly understand what they do and accomplish, you'll understand where I'm coming from.
This post is only fitting since we just celebrated Labor Day. I hope folks understand what it really means.

Peace.

Very true Neal! Even if you are not pro-union you've got to take exception to Hemstreets hiring practices(illegal aliens) and anti-labor machinations.

Re: IFISHSTOCK........Sat. 9/8
What are the fishing options at Ifishstock? What is happening in the Bay? Any reports? Is it too early for T-Bay fall Chinook? What about tides for clamming? How is the crabbing? Bottom fish? Don't know If I want to drag to boat down or just go bank it somewhere before the party? Maybe the Wilson or Kilches? How about Barview jetty? The wife and I are going to be at the party but are looking for something to do in the morning.

WMB glad you pointed that out to some who may not know what kind of S.O.B Hemstreet is. I would sleep on the Street before I gave him a dime willingly.

Re: IFISHSTOCK........Sat. 9/8
Nice to see you are Bi-union Stew. I lost a 42 year old company and 20,000 customers to a union. I had belonged to one in the past and I really don't think unions will survive and will eventually go away as employers become smarter.
It's the companies that create the jobs, not the unions.
In fact, here is my unedited opinion of unions.

Re: IFISHSTOCK........Sat. 9/8
It's amazing how many like minded people you can find on a board like this. Amen on the Hemstreet deal. I thought I was alone in this. I considered going until I saw the Shilo thing.
Did you catch how he is threatening to build some buildings high up in the Eagle cap wilderness on a mining claim he owns? It looks suspiciously like he is doing it just so that he can try to force the forest service to sell him some land around his ranch in Eastern Oregon ranch in order to be able to close a road that goes through his property and keep out the locals.
A few years back he put up a flag pole on a little sliver of property out in front of one of his motels on the coast, called it a "gulf war memorial", and attempted to donate it to the state parks so that he wouldn't have to pay for the upkeep and could reduce his property taxes on the place. What a nice guy! State Parks turned him down. This still doesn't compare to the constant attacks that he throws at organized labor and public employees.
That said I hope everyone has a great time at the party. Any other place in the area that it can be held in the future?

Re: IFISHSTOCK........Sat. 9/8
Hey, new guy here. I've got a question about Saturday. Where is it taking place again? I'll be in the Garibaldi area in the morning. Oh yea, the Shilo thing, it's not fishing related but... I will not give any of my money to Mr. Hemstreet. I was hunting on BLM land at the edge of his ranch a few years back and was thrilled to see such a large herd of elk come down to the pond just inside the ranch border. This was the day before the open of the season. Thrilled until I saw what I think was evidence of a herding operation right were the elk had come from. Then while we were stopped and watching some elk running up the hills a few days later, one of the armed ranch security guards that had been tailing us walked up to our rig and ordered us to get moving and not to stop again. Yes that is a public road but you'll have an armed escort on your bumper from one fence line to another.

Hey FM2 to each his own. I wonder how many "prophets" have in the past said the same thing you said? Whether you like unions or not the fact remains that Hemstreet is everything everyone has said he is and more and I won't stay at his Shilo Inns either. It's more than just a pro/anti union thing too! It's greed, manipulation and arrogance that fuels guys like him.

Re: IFISHSTOCK........Sat. 9/8
FM2, I understand your bitterness. Nonetheless, Unions are NOT going away. It's not a matter of businesses getting smarter (or is it greedier?). Granted, a union needs a contract with which the company can survive and grow. Companies do provide the jobs and the boss may not always be right, but he's always the boss. When management gets backed into a corner, they'll take the path of least resistance, and they're going to take from labor, unless labor is protected by a contract.
Labor Unions level the playing field!
When business owners finally get smart, unions won't be necessary.

Re: IFISHSTOCK........Sat. 9/8
Stew, my gripe is not with Hemstreet, I didn't say a word about that guy. I happen to have been very active in the republican political arena and have served on several national boards but I resigned my positions because too many of the people were in it for their own personal agenda's, not of their constituents.
Prophet's, be careful of the context on how you use that word, the Bible says in Revelations "many millions will be deceived by false prophets". I hope you are not one of them for your own salvation could be at stake.
Vinney, it's obvious you are pro-union. Just look around and see how weak unions are getting because even many of the union members are waking up to the fact that their jobs are not as secure as what they used to be. Unions were formed in the early 1900's but just look at the numbers in how they are declining because of their own greed. Business owners are not greedy, and in looking at our economy more thatn 70% of employees work for small companies than for large one's. Interesting to note, the large companies are having large layoff's which effect the union people while many smaller companies are doing better. You can check out the numbers for yourself.
But heck, I'm not here to have a beef with anyone, I just have a good time with people that have a common interest in fishing

Stew, I pray for everyone's salvation, even if a person is a non-believer. Jesus was a documentated risk taker and I can identify with that. There are not coinsediences in life, we are too intelligent of a being to not have a creator.
Our physical life is only temporary but our spiritual life lives through eternity. I would be more than happy to sit down with anyone and discuss this.
For His Glory,
Keith

Re: IFISHSTOCK........Sat. 9/8
Yes Gregg, we can get back to party and fishing discussion. ... I would never party with Mark Hemstreet! The guy and his ultra oppressive 'tude make me sicker than drinking 3 pints of straight Jack Daniels with a motor oil chaser at a party! Since that weird creature won't be at the Ifishstock party, that will be lots of fun. As for area fishing opps this Saturday ....
.... there will be plenty. Lower T-bay is starting to get big 'nooks, although the peak is a ways off yet. Fishing in appropriate boats out in the Tillamook bubble (just out in the ocean out of Garibaldi) should be very good (unless it opens on the 15th?). You can keep finclipped silvers in T-Bay and N-Bay this year too. N-Bay and on up the Nehalem river tidewater there should be going well for salmon fishers by this weekend. Fishing from buoy 10 to the Astoria bridge will still be really good; and it's not that far from there to Bill and Jen's for the afternoon/evening ifish BBQ party. Crabbing should be good in N-Bay, T-Bay, and Netarts Bay south of town. With the slightly cooler nights and water, fishing for summer steelhead in the nearby Wilson, Trask, and Nestucca rivers should be a decent prospect. Or just mow your lawn and then come down and party!

I won't stay at the Shilo That's why I own a 10'11" Lance Camper. I don't even need to shower @ Jen's house because I have one of them too. I hope to see you all there whether you stay @ the camp or in the Shilo. I like to stay in my camper and fish in my boat. It costs less. Union or no union lets have fun.

True, but in the biblical sense, I think it has something to do with God, not labor unions.
Please don't take the bible and use it for propaganda purposes. It's bad enough I have to see the propaganda on tv, or see it in person, as it only hurts, not helps.
If used in a general sense like you so quoted, everyone has been deceived by the weather man one time or another.
Unions may dissolve; they may not. If you are responsible for the person we have at the helm of this country, please do us all a favor and not vote next time. I'm Republican, and it's clear that GW is nothing but a big corporate puppet and don't even get me started on doing what's right for his constituents.

BYO meat for the BBQ was discussed before
Yip, bring your own meat, however there will be food here, I am sure! We have 8 packs of hot dogs and buns, some hamburger, people are bringing food, etc...
BYO Beer, soda or whatever I assume
We have 10 cases of pop here.
Bring your own... whatever, if you want to drink... whatever...
BYO or provided...plates, silverware. etc(donations if provided?)
We have paper plates, cups and plastic silverware. I hope we have enough! This thing is taking off, getting bigger by the minute!
Jen
BYO or provided TP
We have toilet paper! The porta potty was 60 bucks, you can contribute or not... Money that is! I don't care, it's no biggie.
Shilo Inn just gave us good rates. It is close. I sure didn't mean to start a big political thingy here! It's just a dang party! Can't we just have fun?
I'm going to!
Jen

I agree Jen. The mention of Mark Hemstreet does bring out opinions mostly negative. We can have a fun time and if you don't want to stay at Shilo then don't....hopefully you won't.

Re: IFISHSTOCK........Sat. 9/8
I was always surprised to see Shilo Inns advertised on this site given Hempstreet's ultra-right, anti-union, anti-conservation agenda.
Glad to see that more and more folks are becoming aware of it.
A couple years ago Shilo Inn was the subject of an interesting article in the Tilly Headlight Herald due to unpaid property taxes; notable as I believe it was the largest past-due balance in the county.
Even if Shilo offered good rates, remember, every purchase is a political act.
Hope you all have a good time with the party!

Jennie,
I may be coming on down to the Ifishstock Party. My wife is reconsidering of going to this instead of a reunion picnic as she has not heard back from anyone. I will know for sure Friday afternnon. If we do decide to come, do you think I could bring Fresh corn on the cob? I have a friend who farms 400 acres and says to help my self. Letme know how much I should bring and if so how will we be cooking it? Please get back to me so I can do some planning. Thanks Again, Tom

Re: IFISHSTOCK........Sat. 9/8
I'd love to come down to celebrate another great year of fishing and crabbing with Ifishers, but Saturday is my first born's birthday. I won't miss her party for anything. She's a great crabber and clammer, so next year, if Jenny's Party is on a different date, I'll bring some of my wife's smoked salmon to share and compare. Have a blast!
