Default ideas to pull impeller off merc jet?

I was going to change the water pump on my motor and couldnt get the impeller off. Does anybody have any creative ideas how to pull it? Thanks for the help. Any good marine mechanic names in the gresham area would also be appriciated.

You have to heat it with a torch for a few minutes. it should them come off. You will have to replace the plastic sleeve too. Bathtub!

I had to torch mine to get it off. I melted the plastic sleeve when I did it. No question when the plastic sleeve went up in smoke.

Dont over heat it and melt the seal on the shaft.

Springer,

What year and size? i just replaced my impeeler in a mid 70's 9.9 merc. and all I had to do was pull the drive shaft out, un-screw the 2 screws holding the top of the water to the lower half and slip the impeller off.Have you changed the impeller before? From past experience, the water pump itself is rarely bad. There is not alot that can go wrong, unless it got really hot and warped it. Usually it is just the impeller, which costs a lot less.
