Hi, I'm a Fry, any help is appreciated, thanks...
 ...in advance.
I don't know why I'm in one of these moods, but I read one of this type of posts on the Salty Board a little while ago.
You know, the type of post where the ifisher has less than say, 20 posts, (this time it was his first ), and he is asking for detailed information without contributing to this board's wealth of information in advance.
I apologize if my post rubs anyone the wrong way, but I think the best way to receive is to give first. That is, contribute to the board first, and then ask for specific information. By the way, a simple search would likely turn up the information you seek.
At the very least, introduce yourself, share a story or a hunting/fishing/whatever report, and then ask.
Am I too harsh, or is a mid-season lull making me grumpy?

Yeah, thanks dude. I really needed to hear that. I think I will!
By the way, when was the last time you felt the tug on the end of your line, eh?

Dave, why are you talking fish over here? You should be tarred and feathered for it. You know, that may be part of your problem. You spend too much time chasing fins and not enough energy is invested in putting feathers on the water.
We all know feathers on the water is the road to happiness and contentment... heheheh
As for the "hi, I'm a fry...." type of post... it amazes me how people get wound up about it.
See you at the DA meeting tonight, you grumpy old man you.

A lot of help you are Geoff. You know that I've put my fishing gear away for the year, and you still jab me in the eye with it.
Rightfully so.
Sorry to be a grump. Dustin is right, I need some more trigger time. Tonight will help.

I think you're just homesick.
Last Saturday we parked at the mouth of Bear crick, rode up the top then over and up Poker peak, on down to Elk crick. No elk observed, did see three deer. Slick riding up the north side to Poker, had to dismount and we still had a horse take a roll. He was a little spooked, but no injuries. Rode almost 15 miles, butt was sore. Palisade's is as low as I've ever seen it, but the South Fork looked good.
That should fix ya up!

Hey, at least they are not lurking anymore. I think we need to extend the hand & welcome them aboard.

Thanks guys!! You are all right, plus, I was hungry.
James, thanks for reminding me how long its been. I heard Palisades is a puddle this year.
John, you coming to the DA meeting tonight? Paul said he's in for sure (I'll believe it when I see it). No, I'm not packing to the DA meeting...hehehehe. My writing was ambigous though.
Mike, yes we were all Frys at one time, but we all didn't start off on the wrong fin.

Re: Hi, I'm a Fry, any help is appreciated, thanks...
I was probably here for a good 4-5 years before I asked for any help.
Actually it may be longer than that.
I originally came to ifish to post and read post on salmon/steelhead fishing. When I needed informaton, it was easier to just attend a Salty Dog or DA meeting and get answers first hand, or simple ask a Salty Dog IFISHER at work. If I did post a question, its generally with a request to send the information via a PM.
This is just the way I arrived to where I am today, and its not a judgement on how anyone else came to IFISH or utilize this great resource.

Re: Hi, I'm a Fry, any help is appreciated, thanks...
As far as I know on the SD board there is no birth right to information, anyone having an interest in salt water fishing is welcome. Yes its nice if their first post is the expected story, or maybe one is coming soon. I sort of like to greet people, tell them what the tradition is (a story) and if I can answer their question.
Lets say the guys first post was that he was leaving shortly to go hunt something that was closed and needed a report. I know everybody on this board would be glad to correct him and his distant cousins that he can't go hunt Swans today.
Now take this to the Salty Dog board. Someone is planning to go bottom fishing leaving soon and we all know the off shore wave forecast is West Swell at 25 and N wind waves at 5 with a 10 second period, North wind @ 35kts gusting to 50kts. Are you suggesting that I sit on my hands and not suggest he check wet sands or whatever weather site or that if he isn't in an aircraft carrier he probably shouldn't go just cause he hasn't told us how he built his pipe jigs?
Sorry, but that isn't what the salty dog board is about. If that is what the Hunting board is about, I hear there is a nice bull south of hyw 26 west of Hillsboro.

No way Ted, and that is not my point, and that is not what the Hunting Board is about either. There is a difference between helping someone to be safe offshore, and someone wanting something for nothing (like specific hunting information, or halibut numbers). By the same token, if a new ifisher was planning to go out duck hunting on the lower columbia in an undersized, overloaded boat, no one on this Board would hesitate to offer sage advice, right?
We're not splitting hairs here. Its a different matter. The ocean is a big, wide place, and its customary (and encouraged) to share fresh tuna numbers. Obviously, because tuna move around fast. On the other hand, it may be difficult to get a halibut hole. As you know, any hunter keeps his gps numbers close to his vest, or you know what happens. Similarly, no good hunter would hesitate to help someone in need of safety advice, advice on the regs, or general information about game care, hunting tactics, etc.
It was the something-for-nothing concept I commented on, specifically. You are right about the other stuff.

Hi I'm new to duck hunting and I need coordinates to all your favorite hunting spots.
We were all newbie's once. Relax and go kill some ducks this weekend.

Paul asked me and I told him "yes" yesterday but I was already planning on coyote calling tonight. I told him I'd do both but I changed my mind. I can't reach him but I guess he'll figure it out when he gets out of class. I'm going calling. Nothing personal but I'd just as soon shoot something. Sounds like a good group and maybe some other time.
Just got some new FA sample Goose and duck decoys and another ground blind in. Looks like my set will have 4 guns for Saturdays goose shoot. I heard you passed because someone doesn't have a WA lic? tsk tsk tsk. The season is young and I still haven't figured out a sure set yet on these geese ... but it's coming.
Ordered a cart from DS today. I'm getting tired of multiple trips to the truck. Ask Paul what time he showed up for goose last Sunday. Let's see it opens at 8:00 .... how's 7:55 sound? Geez I thought I was giving him a break by telling him if he got there by 7:30 it would be OK. Pretty sweet to run into the field and have everything set including your layout blind grassed out. Then he bugged out early with the boat to hit the ducks at the coast. At least I got him to carry his layout blind back to the truck. Give him some heck for me will ya!
Did you look at the FA MarshGunner? Might need to add that to my toys as well. If you run into anyone who thinking about a layout boat, you might want to pass on what you know know now.
