The Snipe
Had a bit of good luck the other day.
Apparently the Momarsh Company shipped a boat out to the Portland on accident.
I had a chance to obtain said craft but was a bit short.
Anya kicked in and said “ok, this is birthday and Christmas combined”. I promised that I’d mow the lawn and change her car’s oil for the next 40 years.
Spoke with the guy from Momarsh (Ira) and he got everything squared away so that I could pick it up today.
Drove the truck down to the fedex terminal in Portland and was relieved to see that she fit into the truck!
My neighbor saw me out in the back yard with her and asked “did the duckbomber give birth to a new boat”?
I can see real potential in the new rig.
She has good lines, is responsive to being moved by hand, and likes to ride in the truck.. How can that be a bad thing?
Alex has already ****** on her. So I guess that means it is his boat now.
She's got a long nose, is agile, and belongs in a marsh, So I named her "the snipe".
I am going to fashion some oarlocks and see if I can drop a 2-3.5 hp outboard on the back of her. Should be a good way to explore some backwaters and previously unreachable spots.
Anyone have a line on a 2-3.5 hp outboard? let me know. I have a 7.5 merc that runs well that I'd trade...

Re: The Snipe
Welcome to the club!
They are very versatile!
Ira is a good guy. He did us (three of us have this boat) right. I've never looked back.

Re: The Snipe
Todd, sounds like time for a maiden voyage. Have you tried to hoist her into the Bomber yet. Towing is an option but you have to be careful.
You might want to consider a small electric with the shaft cutdown. When you're running the sloughs you won't spook so many birds on your way in. Don't know about Washington but Oregon requires registration and numbers on the boat when a motor is affixed.
We use the pod we have more than the big boat most years.
You're gonna have to get sick and miss a day of school real soon.

Re: The Snipe
You got yourself a great boat! I love mine. My boat is one of the first models, so I am envious that yours is probably 20 lbs lighter than mine.
Just curious, is that flotation under the deck on the side?
I use a 2.7 hp Cruise n Carry outboard, for power. The great thing is it only weighs about 16 lbs. They are no longer manufactured, but they ocasionally show up on ebay and other websites.
You will have fun customizing the boat to your liking. I am finishing up some modifications to mine so I will try to post some pictures when I am done.
If you plan on towing it, I have found using a towing bridle works much better than towing from a bow eye or the front handle.

There's no way I would trade that motor. It's been way, way too good to me.
Todd, beware the unfinished fiberglass edge along the gunwale. It will tear waders. We have put a rubber guard along the entire edge to prevent it.
