Default The curse of SI lives...

It never fails when a team gets hyped early. They can only have a letdown from there. Seems like the Beaves are a better team than they showed. To bad, we really wanted them highly ranked when we spank them in Reser. Maybe next year .

Power to the Dawgs!

If you are thinking the Dogs (Proper way to spell the word)will be in it you are kidding yourself. The Rose Bowl will be the national championship game. Washington should end up around 4th in the Pac 10.

Speaking of "backup" quarterbacks, Wisconsin's is kind of like Oregon's was last year. Can you say A.J. Feeley? He never started a game last year and was still ranked one of the top six QBs in the nation. Joey Harrington is home grown, legit, come from behind, do what it takes, kick butt type of QB. Talk the talk if you want, but there ain't one of you out there that could go one on one or for that matter two on one with him in your best days. Yes the Beavs got to him last year but it will be different this year at Autzen. There are no favorites in the Civil War, and thats what makes it so good. Only thing better is when Ducks and Beavers both kick Husky butt. Too bad only one team from Oregon can beat the Huskies this year!! Prediction; Wisconsin will win the Big 10. They will also beat Fresno Bulldogs this weekend.

After watching Joey Heisman and the the Ducks' efforts against Wisco and their BACKUP QB, I wouldn't call UO the favorite in the Pac either. Looks like UCLA might be the team to beat.

The Ducks' problem is they have to play some games AWAY from Autism Stadium. All this home-win-streak, best-5-out-of-7, best-in-the-Pac, talk STILL has yet to lead to Roses. After the Beavs knock off the overconfident Ducks this year, the door should be wide open for the Dawgs.

Muhahahahahaha

I hate to beat a dead Beaver, but what in the hell?? I go deer hunting for three days, and our beloved pre-season national champs have already lost their opening game to..........who?.......WHO?.......You mean to tell me there is actually a college named 'FRESNO STATE', and they have enough male book draggers to play football??

44-24, it wasn't even close. Thank God you guys didn't blow a quarter mil plastering Simonton all over downtown NY.

SO, tell me Beaver fans...what does it feel like knowing that the UW's record is already better than yours....AND THEY HAVEN'T EVEN PLAYED A GAME YET!!!!

I sure hope you creampuffs enjoyed your year of glory, I hear parole officers are really cracking down on violators. If they do, you'll lose about 9 more starters, not good.

I'm guessing it's two years max, and you'll be back to being everyone's b*tch, even WSU's...

You doggies keep talking about your Rose Bowl win last year against a team that at least 4 or 5 Pac 10 schools could have beaten. Only one Pac 10 team had any form of competition in the bowl games last year. I believe that was the Ducks who beat another top 10 team in the form of the Texas Longhorns.

Does anybody up north remember why Lampwrong was fired as your coach. I belive it was because he could not beat the Ducks.

It is amazing though that in the Oregonion this morning there was a story about Neuheisel getting a raise. What a joke!! Can't you guys up north see that he is doing the same thing with your program that he did in Colorado. That was take a team of national championship caliber and took it right out of the top 25 in 2 to 3 years. Yes sir I hope you keep this proven looser.

Go Ducks!!!

Going on record as to say Pac10 football? ...lmao lmao lmao lmao especially arguments over PAC10 football are even more hilarious.

When you boys get through fighting over a seat on the elevator bus, we SEC boys will be rollin' in da limos. And being from the South and having knowledge of said religion, the better team has and will always be the Univ. of Washington.

If it ain't the sports program's history that draws the players, it's the campus and what it offers. How many campuses can you go to and party with 1,000 non-english speaking hotties? Granted, any college in So. Cal, New Mexico, or Texas could boast such glory, but I said 1,000 non-english speakin' students. Students being the key word.

'Lamprey' got the boot because he couldn't find a way to carry on the "cheat and get away with it" Udub tradition - so couldn't beat the Ducks. Despite all those nice recruiting advantages around Sea-town (right in a big city, money, tradition (purchased winners), scenery, etc.), on a closer to level recruiting field 'dubs' have only been in the ball park like the rest of the contenders in recent years. So what?!? .....

..... It sure does amaze me how college football success seemingly raises the self esteem of it's fans. How does that work? In case you weren't aware of it, THE FANS AREN'T ON THE FIELD PLAYING! Helloooooooo. ...

... I love both states of WA and OR, so I guess I'm not really into the smack talkin past a little fun. Can't get really serious about though. More and more like the pro teams, they are just guys brought in from all over the country and paid (in one form or another) to play for a city or school; most of you don't even go to - at least anymore. ...

The following is not a challenge - yet. But if you 'girlie mon' smack talkin wussies really wanted to do something to actually show which state can play some ball, how about a football and basketball game between current members (prior to this post on 9/4/01) of ifish and Piscatorial of teams from WA angainst OR? No ringers! Two classes - under 35 age and over 35's. That would be 2 games each of basketball and football. I know I could take out some meaningless smack talkers.

HEY Sean! As usual, no. Nobody talks about fishing in the rare occassional well labled interesting sports thread on here. Here's an idea for you - just click on the vast majority of fishing threads on here instead of the one with Sports Illustrated in the title. ... You did know SI is known by about everybody as short for Sports Illustrated; even by the girls. I also noticed you read thru it all to make a post (if you can call that a post). I have tried to limit my replies to fishing related, but I've had enough. First and foremost the Washington Huskies have been, are, and will always be the class of the Pac-10 football. I'm not talking only record, but also academics, support (Curtis Williams, etc.) and everything else that goes with college.
Over the last few years the Ducks and Beavers have had some football success so everyone jumps on the bandwagon. If you want to talk numbers, here are a few.

1970-2000 Winning percentage

1.Nebraska
2.Michigan
3.Penn State
4.Ohio State
5.Oklahoma
6.Alabama
7.Florida State
8.Notre Dame
9.Tennessee
10.WASHINGTON
11.Miami
12.Florida
13.Texas

Over 30 years, thats some pretty nice company to be ranked amongest.

Some other numbers for you boys.

Pac-10 Winning Percentage in the 1990's

1.WASHINGTON
2.Arizona
3.UCLA
4.Oregon
5.USC
6.Arizona State
7.Stanford
8.California
9.Washington State
10.Oregon State

Even the Poor Cougars rank above OSU.

The Huskies start with Michigan at home and then Miami on the road. The Huskies easily could be 0-2 or they could be 2-0 you just never know. It all comes down to getting the right breaks at the right time.
I've never played a down at the UW, but will always be a supporter of both athletics and academics.

Question: Why would the Huskies go to a better Bowl Game with a 5-6 record than lets say the Ducks or Beavers with a 6-5 record?

Answer: Washington Huskies have Class.
Ducks ?
Beavers? No way, you saw it last year against Notre Dame.

Everyone can talk trash, but when it really comes down to it, in the big scheme of things, college football really isn't that big of deal.
Family #1, Fishing #2, Everything else falls wherever.

I am sorry. But as long as the doggies have *rick Nueheisel as your coach you will cosidered the most classless team in the Country. It all comes with having the most classless human in the world as your coach. Sportsmanship? He does not have a clue what the word means. Nehuheisel is a A** H**e. And that is his good point.

Yadda, yadda, yadda! None of the PAC-10 will win the national title and it appears that OSU got WAY too much SI hype. It's a regional thing and since I don't really follow college football that much I'd rather talk baseball. You heard it hear first!
Mariners win 2001 World Series over Arizona Diamonbacks The "Unit" will once again not show up for post season and the M's will spank him! Mariners take the series 4 games to 2.

RT,

Are you serious? US playing football? That would be the biggest collection of blown out knees and pulled groins since training camp opened for the 70+ League. But if you insist, I'll just warn you that I am more mobile than an oil tanker, and faster than a speeding banana slug, so I'll be as competitive as anybody out there.

Hey stz, you can spare me your propaganda line. You couldn't hold DJ's jock. Yep, DJ was a detriment to the UW football program. You must be a Tyee to be so in tune with Husky football.

Well 'Fly bro, in football I would be playing the line and you a receiver, so no matchup. Besides, you were one of the best recievers out of the state of WA back in your day. No way I, or likely other guys, could stay with ya on a mid to long route. ... But! When you and I shot baskets I was ripping the nets while you were throwing bricks - and I do mean throwing. You have no shot! And if you are 26 physically, I am as strong as Shag. So if in the highly unlikely event that my 3 pointer was off, I'd just have fun toying with you in the paint. On 'D' I wouldn't have to defend you past 5 feet.

Edit: Half court only for this guy's ankle though.

I'll play in this football game... MUH HA HA HA HA HA Full-contact, no pads. RT, you may want to buy an extra peanut shell and rubberband though, so you can have a backup jock strap when your first one gets handed to you

Was that the Univ. of Alabama I saw at #6 in that list of winning percentages from 70-00?

And for the record, the coach with the least amount of class in college football would have to be Steve Spurrier. Who else would run up the score on an opponent something like 80+ points and have this evil grin while he's doing it? You just gotta love a coach like that. He sends a message that says and I quote, "Don't come to our yard ever ever ever again, or you'll lose by more than 40 next time." teams just don't listen.....

I was (yes, my comment was a joke) and yet you take swings at me for sharing my opinion? Please dont be so quick to judge me or my motives. If your reply was a joke, I misinterpreted as well, and my apologies for this rant. But when this crap degenerates into personality feuds, it loses all value to me. If you question my motives, ask. I'll be glad to explain myself further. BTW - I am a huge college football fan, in fact, having lived in Corvallis for 29 years, you could call me a masochistic fan of the highest order. Not a front runner, not trying to catch the bandwagon (which may have lost a wheel over the weekend). Yes, a beaver fan who for 28 years looked forward to the potential of a TOUCHDOWN. Or a punt over 20 yards. Or a caught pass. Or a first down. Dedicated, despite every reason in the world to follow another.

That's a pretty interesting opinion of Washington's coaching staff, and program overall RT.

Now, go back and check the win-loss totals posted by the Huskies while on probation(and short on scholarships), and check those totals of Oregon State during the same time period.....That's right, Oregon St. still had 70+ water boys wearing pads
Erickson hadn't arrived in town and raided the penal system 'all-star' team yet

Hang on to the one year of glory fella's..Erickson has already used up two years of his tenure....he only stays anywhere for 5 years max..

First thing first...The dawg Father was pure class,he stepped down because of the bullseye painted on his program by the pac 10,by allowing them to decide his punishment is like letting the Native Americans decide our fishing schedules ,it was football player who took the bucks, try and bring something current to the table kiddies.
Everyone knows that coach duckyBoy is the biggest joke in the pack 10.the only way he can recruit is to rip other programs instead of playing his up,there is documented proof that he also creats false depht charts from other schools to get recuits,it's only college football and it's creates alot of passion for some of us,so try and keep the personal attacks to a minimum.

Football/Basketball RTyou pick a time and place...No tackle for this kid,I have a job that pays...this won't but 2 hand touch flag what ever.
I ain't gonna talk smack because my mouth is cashing checks my body can cash.... ....I'm in....Os

Shack daddy .....hehehehehehe

quote:
try and bring something current to the table kiddies.

That what we have been trying to get you Dawg stylers to do Os! Since the Husky's aren't rated or much of a title threat this year we keep hearing meanless history lessons about them instead. Getting boooring! "try and bring something current to the table kiddies." ...

'Yall my bro, yes I will bring my gag peanut cup strap for you to hold - since you can't even hold up my real strap. ...

And Sean, it's gotta be the nasty full moon thing over the last few days; I've been cantankerous in a lot of my posts. Please excuse; and never take my posts overly seriously. But do make up your mind, was your post an opinion or a joke - can't have it both ways. I took it as an opinion; and one that isn't popular with many of the guys on here ... that we should only have fishing posts and never any fun occasional sports threads. Which brought the appropriate response of enlightening people that they have a clicker to choose the threads they read. That's all - no biggie.

... a joking opinion? An opinionated joke? I really don't care what people talk about, and yes, I know the rules about not reading threads that I dont care about... BUT, as the masochistic fan that I am, how could I not read the SI thread ... And it was all downhill from there. It just got depressing...

One Word: Hypocrite.

PS. Thanks Phish, somebody has a good memory.
I remember last year when someone from dawg
ville was hoping the Bruins of UCLA would leave something for the Dawgs.

I was on a co-ed croquetball team once. Then companies like Nike and Reebok had to split the team up. Of course my career fizzled out because of this "image" I supposedly was portraying. All because I tried to stab this chick on the opposing team with my converse all-stars. Geez, I swear some things never stop following you around...

Neutron, how can someone be a welch when you never collected on the bet? The effort was there by the losing party, but the winner won't stop running at the mouth like a drunken schoolgirl and collect.

1 year of glory and people let it all go to their heads. Kinda like the 19 yr old kid who hit the lottery.

I waited to reply here. debated if I should just let it go but.... Y'all don't know jack,
you weren't involved... Dan, my comment was
out of line (sorry). My opinion is, you should stick to your word. If you say you
are gong to do something, follow up on it.
It's not my responsibilty to invite myself.
What gets my goat is when you and OS start
the smack all over again (in fun) after last
years DUCK victory of UW. Dan, my offer of
fishing down here still stands. Since U of O
doesn't play UW, should be no problem. Next
year? I'm sure the Ifish folks don't care to
see this crap from me anyway. Bobber down, OS set the hook, Fish ON, keyboard out of control. B.O.E- Beavers #1?????? Ha. Oh and
Y'all, aren't you from L.A.? How bout them UCLA bruins?

Yeah, you're right, I have absolutely no idea about your bet with Dan from last year; there's just no possible way I could know anything about it.

Didn't Dan mention that UCLA will be the team to beat in the PAC10 this year.

roll tide...errr...war eagle...err, ummm, yeah that's it

Hey Yall', Looks like your girls from down South got caught once again. I would think a first year accountant could figure out the 'Bama payroll. Amazing it took 7 years. Messing with ya bro

On another note, my vote would go for the Tide for the best cheerleaders. Hot babes w/ no teeth, what more could a guy ask for...

NEUTRON,

The offer still stands for you. Any time you can get here, I'll have the front seat of my driftboat ready for you. You can even take Y'all's place on Floatilla III since you earned it. Of course, you'll be riding with me and Os, so you'll have to put up with some purple company.

Three observations. The huskies won today but had to do some tricky comeback playing to do it. They could not win it on the line of scrimmage. In fact here is an interesting statistic. "Washington, which was playing its season opener, has come from behind in 14 of its last 19 victories." So how is it that the Husky fans feel that their Dawgs are superior to their friends to the south?

The next observation: Fresno state is for real they beat Wisconsin today. Perhaps the Beavers loss wasn't that big of a surprise. I notice that none of the SoCal teams are lining up to play Fresno State. Perhaps it's because they know they will get beat.

Last observation: the ducks are now 2-0. Too bad they don't get to beat the Huskies again this year.

Go Ducks!

Sandy, Fresno won again hey? After two games, it really shows that the polls don't mean much (7th?). As much as I don't care for the dawgs (mostly because of their past and consistent success), just what if they manage to upset the Caines next week? I might
have to root for them just to see things shake up. At least make it close. How did those Beavs do? I couldn't even get to the trampoline at Jens party because of Beaver Ben. sheeeshh. Next time, I'll leave the green shirt at home.
