Default Buoy 10 Report

It is always troubling to hear about lives lost and given the beautiful day out on the river, hard to imagine. My prayers out to their friends and family. While it was rough by the breakers, it was very nice elsewhere. People were getting their fish today. We fished mostly by Buoy 20 and 22, though we did make a run out to Buoy 14 or 12 - not sure. Fish being caught there too. We didn't do very well - missed three and one finclipped chinook (released). Not sure what our problem was. But we had the whamme on - maybe it was the guy at Fisherman's that said it was a "can't miss fishery" the night before, maybe it was the banana in the boat (not mine), maybe it was we kept two rods running hoochies, maybe it was because we spent too much time trolling against the tide. The good news was taht several other boats were working on four fish limits.

I mishandled the hatchery chinook. It was our first (and turned out to be only) fish. When I looked at the fin I noticed it was finclipped and I immediately hauled it into boat. After it bounced around, I noticed it was a chinook. Anyway, we released it for the crabs. It is a shame we can't keep those hatchery Chinook at Buoy 10 - that is not an excuse for mishandling a fish that should of been released in better shape. Anyone know what the reasoning is? The fish was not huge - about 8 lbs.

My son and I were out there yesterday, and got skunked as well. We got 5 fish to the boat and non were clipped. Had a few other taked downs as well, so we couldn't complain about the action. I was real disapointed that my son couldn't bring one in the boat as he has very little time off, but it was a great day for me. We put in at Fort Canby and fished everywhere form 10 to 20. I have to say that it was very nice at bouy 20, but was a bit knarly West of bouy 14, with huge breakers on the spits. I can sure see that anyone venturing out on the Peacock spit would have been in serious trouble. I'm sure sorry to hear that there was trouble out there, and at the same time glad I didn't cross the bar. (Didn't even consider it after seeing conditions). Glad you had a nice day out there as we did. We hooked most of our fish in rough water near bouy's 12 and 14. (16 - 18 strips)

We noticed the Coast Guard Helicopter was real busy yesterday. I heard there were 4 boats that capsized yesterday but can't confirm that. We ended up hooking 10 but most were natives or Chinooks. We managed to get 3 in the box. We heard the morning bite was fair to good but not hot. We started about 10am and fished the incoming.
