Default Info on Brownings BLR?

I have a .270 Gibbs (pre '64 model 70) and a Weatherby Vanguard .25-06. I don't consider either of these to be great brush guns. The 25-06 is a great deer gun and very flat shooting. The .270 Gibbs is a wildcat similar to the Ackley. It has been a great deer and elk rifle but I want a little more power.

I am looking for a good light weight brush gun that can also be scoped for elk at farther distances (out to 300 yards)

I got to handle a Marlin .45-70 and loved how it felt. Not a big fan of the tubular magazine and not a great caliber for longer shots.

I did a little looking around and came across the Browning BLR. This looks like a sweet little lever action with quite a few caliber choices.

I have never owned a lever action but really like how they feel. I am thinking about the 325 short mag.

I would like a little feedback from someone that owns or has at least shot a BLR.

Thanks.

Exclamation Re: Info on Brownings BLR?

Started hunting with my fathers 308 BLR. I have found that they are a great brush gun and quick to reload. No tube and the loaded magazine can be easily be placed in the gun. Only downfall is the safety. Half caulk on the hammer is hard to accomplish if you have a low rise scope. Just a thought, make sure to have an extension placed on the hammer if you get one. Sould save a misfire or two. Second option is to get high rise rings.

I have one in 243 and it was my first deer rifle. I have no complaints at all and would certainly buy another. The action is not like a normal lever action, it's some kind of rotary bolt that locks in. It's a nice smooth action and very accurate rifle. Like you already know they are short and light, great brush gun.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Any word on accuracy? If the .325 WSM shoots as well as I am hearing (185 grain bullets at over 3000fps)and is accurate, this may be just what i need.

The 308 was very accurate even with factory ammo. I agree with the action, very smooth not like the winchester or the ruger. I thought about getting the 325 but looked more into the winchester brand with a bolt action. If your going to be shooting something with that type of balistic, I would typicaly pick up a longer rifle. Thats just my opinion it could be lots of fun to have a brush gun with that firepower.

I agree the BLR is a nice rifle. Do some research on the forgotten 358 winchester, which is a caliber choice in this gun.
