Default Buoy 10 - Lives lost

I just heard on the news that two boats capsized at Peacock Bar at the mouth of the Columbia today. The first incident involved 4 individuals ... two were lost, the two saved were wearing life preservers. The second incident also involved 4 persons and one person was lost. Please, remember the families and friends of the boaters in your thoughts and prayers. And pay tribute to them by wearing your life preserver and staying out of unfamiliar waters.

Pete, Thanks for the news spot. My heart goes out to the families who have lost their own and to the individuals involved in the rescue efforts today. In our exuberence to harvest the fish of a bountiful season, sometimes we overlook the risks we take to participate. Let's all be aware!

Take care, Dale

Folks this is serious! If this board has any usefull purpose it should be to promote safe boating so that we can have fun fishing. I too, have been lulled into complacency and not wearing floation from my decades of watersurvival training. But it's time for me, and maybe all of us, to start wearing the lifejackets and setting an example. I don't even own a boat but when I'm on someone else's boat and the weather gets even the slightest rough I'll stand and be counted.
Thanks for the heads-up Pete. My eyes are finally opened. It's just too bad someone had to die before the blinders came off.

There are other considerations besides life jackets and safety gear. Know when to say when. If it adds up to 10 stay home and mow your lawn. That is seas + swells = 10. I join you in consoling the survivors.

With all the recent incidents involving boaters and an unfriendly Ocean, I ask you to think about this. Check the weather, if the wind or the waves are big, stay home. It's just not worth it. If you get to the launch and it is rough, go home.

Know your limits and respect them, live to fish on a calm day.

Amen brother Pilar,

Even 4 fish are just 4 fish.

Let them gorge for another day, they'll just be bigger when ya get a chance to boat them later .

My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those lost.
