Red face Can you troll with a 50 hp?

Can a guy successfully troll for trout, kokanee, salmon Etc. with 50 hp? I'm looking at a 16' North River and throwing out a couple sea anchors. The 50 is a Yamaha 4 stroke.

Thanks "Chrome Bumper", will it hurt the 50hp to run like that?

How slow do you want to troll? One of my boats we use for trout and kokanee is a lighter 16 footer Smokercraft with a 40 hp 4 stroke. I ordered it with an 11 inch pitch prop to reduce the trolling speed and on a non windy day w/o current can troll at 1.6-1.7 mph gps speed. If I want to troll slower, I either put out a bucket or use the electric trolling motor.

Doesn't seem to, works like throwing out a whole bunch of sea anchors. I wound up cutting about half of it away because it went to darn slow. I was looking for 1.4-1.5 at idle for springers. I also carry one sea anchor for higher troll speed or for anchoring in a breeze. Prop pitch, diameter and number of blades is another variable you can play with. Going with less pitch will effect high speed behavior, and a smaller prop to increase slip will effect hole shot.
