Default Fishing Rights are becoming endangered

Today I received my new issue of Bassmaster Magazine Sept/oct.2001. The editor had a very interesting message to alert the members and other fisherman. We are all aware of PETA and their ilk trying to stop us from fishing as well as hunting. We all laugh it off and call them names. He does not now laugh. "Peta has 600,000 members and their protests in 'england and Germany have already produced fishing bans on a number of lakes and streams."

In July, a former wildlife biologist attended the Animal Rights conference in W. Virginia and he has since put out a report on the groups radical agenda. The organization is bragging how they are forcing the Boy Scouts to discontinue their merit badges for fishing. They state that if peaceful methods fail then more "radical" tactics must be used. The biologist stated that he felt like he was "attending a commmunist traing program back in the 1950's and 1960's for a cadre of insurgents being sent into a country to subvert.

PETA blasted Presidedent George W. Bush as "an enemy to us all". They boast of controling congress and other federal bureaucracy but they no longer have control over the Fish and Wildlife Service since Clinton left office.

Scary? You are right. Think they can't do it? You may be wrong. I worked for an Animal Control Agency and believe me these people can undermine a lot of different programs. They can twist facts and control minds. They are already in schools teaching our children that fishing is bad. Who are they? They are people in all parts of life that subscribe to the idea that animal rights come first before man. No animal or fish should be eaten and their bodies should not be used for any other use.

The best way to fight is to keep your eyes and ears open to their programs. Listen when your kids come home with ideas from their schools.

This article awakened some new thoughts in my mind. I just hope my grandkids and their kids don't have these plans happen in their world.

No fishing? No hunting? What are we supposed to eat? Tofu?---I THINK NOT!! Who are these people to tell us what we can and cannot do? Are they aware of where these fish/animals fit in the food chain? We should put them at the bottom with grass or? How is it that they can force their eating habits on us? Where so we get tags for PETA season?

Hawgcatcher, If your kids are taught this PETA stuff at school you need to make a formal written complaint to your school district. You need to get other parents to do the same. Be able to back up your complaints with facts.

Bambi started this PETA cr#$ more than 50 years ago and it just gets worse and worse.

I agree with you Hawgcatcher that PETA is a real threat to fishers; as they are to hunters. I don't know how much of one yet. I also agree with Roadsend that if you have evidence that PETA is involved in anti-fishing propaganda in schools you had better get to writing letters to the principals and law enforcement officials in that school district right away! Get help from other fishermen in any such infiltrated school district. ...

Does anyone know why we are getting entirely way too many short minded radical people, such as 'right to lifers' and PETAs, that are getting in our faces and after our intrinsic rights? And seemingly don't have a real life of their own? ...

HEAR THE FOLLOWING PETA!

PETA needs to learn factual concepts such as: The cougars they try to protect evolved eating cute little live deer; and they still eat them alive! And very importantly, that people are evolved mammal animals too, despite their higher intelligence level; we are like the cougar that has higher intelligence than the rodents it eats. PETA cannot have it both ways - contending that higher intelligent human animals can't eat lower intelligent animals, yet for them it's fine if other animals can eat lower intelligence animals! Geeeeeeeez. And recall that us human animals evolved eating dumber dead animals, that we killed with much less suffering than being eaten alive! And that we have just as much inherant and God given right to eat fish and animals as bigger wild predator animals eat smaller animals, and bigger fish eat smaller fish! And that the Bible says that Jesus was one heck of a great fishermen, that provided lots of fish for needy people to eat! ... Why isn't PETA protesting and trying to stop wild animals and big fish from eating dumber animals and little fish?!? I strongly suspect they don't have the intelligence to answer these questions. Or maybe even understand the truths I've written? Still, we should try to educate them to these facts. ...

PETAs also need to know for sure that any radical attacks on fishermen and their rights will be met with appropriate radical self defenses! Does anyone know the PETA website url? Or other ways for lots of us to send them letters with all of the above facts included? Please post it if you do. ... [EDIT] Don't make letters out to be from ifish - they need to be from lots of individuals. Thanks. ...

Mike Gilchrist and RFA (Recreational Fishing Alliance), what is your take on this? And what do you think we should do about it?

RT, I don't know if they hav a website. They probably do but they also may be like ELF and not have any 1 site. These people are dangerous.

There is a web site that is interesting from a fisherman's point of view. It is "The Angler's Manifesto" by author Richard Louv. It is at WWW.richardlouv.com when you get there click on The Angler's Manifesto and read the information there. It is also interesting and about the PETA problem.

I would have put the site as a html but I am still trying to figure out how to type yet. Oh well.
