Fish Eggs at Cascade Locks
How much do the Indians that sell their fish at The Locks charge for fresh eggs? Last year it was 5.00/lb. . I know from reports on the TV the meat is realitively cheap.
I don't know if I should stock up now, wait a couple of weeks(will the price be lower??),bank on last years supply to bring home the big hen(s).
Is it great to live in such a place and time and have such a delima?

Re: Fish Eggs at Cascade Locks
I wouldnt buy a thing to help support Gillnetting in anyway. As long as there is a market for any part of a fish they net they will sell them.If you want good eggs call Scott Amerman. amerman eggs He has great fresh and cured eggs. They have been taken care of a lot better than the indian eggs. No blood and kept cool. Don't do it call Scott and he will hook you up with the best eggs you can buy.
Just Say No to Gillnets!!

Re: Fish Eggs at Cascade Locks
The Amerman eggs are absolutely deadly. Maybe they should be illegal --- they are that good.

Re: Fish Eggs at Cascade Locks
Too many riding the fence out there, do not know, or do not care as long as it does not directly affect them.
I'd fish corky and yarn before I ever bought, or any of my friends ever bought eggs from a gillnet. It's hypocritical to be abusive towards nets, but then turn to them to supply you with eggs for upriver fish.
Eggs are great bait, but there's too many underrated baits out there to push me to breaking out more of MY MONEY to support their "habits" and "nets".
Also makes me wonder just how many people huff and puff on here about nets when it suits them, but then offscreen, go running to them with $50. At least you have God to forgive you, but we are harder to win over.
The reel hey_yall, picking up da microphone from bro's webtv. I'm gone fishin' now, buh bye.

I'm with fry(Yall) on this one. Don't do anything to support gillnetting! Some of those eggs are going to be from wild, native run fish and they belong in a redd on some tributary of the Columbia not on your hook. I would suggest Amerman eggs if you want eggs.

Re: Fish Eggs at Cascade Locks
Wonder what it would be like to reach down and find a hundred or so of these in the "tooth nets?" Probably a few pairs of underwear in the garbage! I hear the Pawpaw Patch tribes on the Amazon use the Pirana's poison eggs on their blowdart tips for big game. LOL.

Re: Fish Eggs at Cascade Locks
Scott Amerman gets his eggs from state hatcheries. He goes through a bid process that anyone with a state bait license can be involved with. Just be prepared to buy 10,000 pounds or more in a season.
I too, used to buy eggs from Indian gillnets. I hate gillnets so it's Amerman eggs for me. You can't compare his eggs to gillnets eggs for quality or ethics.

Re: Fish Eggs at Cascade Locks
Oh oh Stew, after your post here there might be a couple of sly ifish members that will try to say you buy Indian gillnetted eggs (even though you definitely don't); because they buy them. Watch your backside! ...
And who can disagree with FD's post? Not me.

Re: Fish Eggs at Cascade Locks
Gillnet caught eggs will not catch fish........Amermans will. I think that there is some kind of "rotten" characteristic about anything relating to gillnets.

Re: Fish Eggs at Cascade Locks
The reason every one has to release all these chinook down here on the lower Columbia is so they can get their quota in the nets.

Re: Fish Eggs at Cascade Locks
I was in Cascade Locks today! Yes, the tribes are definately selling eggs! Along with salmon and steelhead! The steelhead was $2.00 a friggin' pound! I'm sure that some of those fish were natives too! A native fish worth $2 a pound! Those native fish are priceless

Re: Fish Eggs at Cascade Locks
Tried to buy the fish that ****** has to let go down below the dam . Actually they have signs at their little booths. Hey does anyone know what the fishing platforms are along the river? Are those where the tribes gillnet?

Re: Fish Eggs at Cascade Locks
Stew, those platforms are where they dipnet. They use them once in awhile, might actually do that when they arent allowed to gill net, not possitive though.

Re: Fish Eggs at Cascade Locks
I heard the Yakama's were dip netting the spring chinook. From what I hear they went about it pretty cool too. They'd go down dip them a fish or two (don't remember) and head home. Much rather see them doing this than the gillnets. At least it's a little closer to what their ancestors did.
Can't have everything we want but may as well try and make it a little better.
