Default Preference points

Just curious how many preference point’s people have saved up for elk? I've got 8 and I’m looking forward to my chances of drawing a good tag this coming year.

That should get you something good, just depends on were you want to hunt.

get the percentage tags book and you can gurantee what you draw with 8 points, or work the numbers yourself from last years tag results. If you want to draw something for sure though the book really helps.

We each have 15, been waiting for a branch hunt inside the Starkey Forest. Hopefully with that number we will at least stand a chance of pulling tags.

I was looking at the exp forest tag. I'd say with 15 points you are sitting pretty good. How many people are "we"?

15pts?????? Have you been doing point savers the last two years? You could have drawn Wenaha with 13. You could drawn any elk tag you want this year.

Starkey experimental forest did NOT have any elk hunts last year. Ive heard they have something this year, but not sure. They havent had a branch bull hunt in years. I drew the first branch hunt, and the second. At that time there were 11 branch bulls in the area that they allowed us hunters in, and 4 people were successful(including my dad)

Tells you what your odds are for drawing in every unit with how many points you have, its usually pretty accurate but it can change based on the amount of tags that they allocate. It is a great resource to use if you want to draw without any points or want to up your odds of drawing a tag with little points. Also a good predictor of what you will draw with X number of points, etc...

We are (3) now. The guy that got us started hunting, got his last big bull in there. He passed about a year ago after fighting cancer for years. We had been saving points to get back in there. We (3) decided to keep the points up until they opened a bull hunt again. Big dreams, big plans, big ideas all kept us waiting for the chance back inside the gate. I'm sure there are better places for better bulls but we would like to keep on with the dreams and plans we have had for this many years.

2008 regs say that there will be 25 tags on a BULL hunt this fall.

With no pts.//// I have gotten a cow with a either sex tag; nothing; bull only, no animal the next year; then 6X6; then 5X5 this year. 80% draw 60% success.

Not to knock the tag book, but all the info is available on the ODFW web site. it is a great resource and free.a little hard to decifer some of the data, but if you study it for a while you will figure it out.

Oregon Jet..............by looking at the ODFW preference point summary for the Walla Walla (archery hunt) and the Walla Walla (rifle hunt)................................out of all the people that applied for both hunts, 11 points was the highest entered into the draw for both..................so.......................unl ess you did not apply this year..............you should have been not only drawn, but automatic...........................Please correct me if I am wrong but this is how I understand it when I read the point summaries.................or maybe I need to buy the book????????? 9 points waiting for the Walla Walla as well. You should have pulled it with 12 points......must have some others in your party dragging your points down?????? My wife had a first season spike tag this year and I have picked up the bonus tag the last 4 years (not this year).......No spikes this year. I went 3 for 4 on spikes and my wife had a couple of chances this year.....a little more experience and she would have gotten one. Sometimes it is hard to get a spike in there. Nice way to scout it. I will patiently wait.....along with everyone else. Jim Zumbo says there are 3 ways to get a truphy bull. 1) Get Lucky..it happens 2) Pay for it (guided hunt) 3) Patiently work the point systems. I've got 7 points in Colorado.....looking for 13.
