Default Pheasant trip

I`m heading out the door for a day hunt. We have a sweet spot that always kicks out limits of birds, if we do our part. I will post a report tonight.
I`m wondering what everyones favorite shot size and choke set up is. Mine is a mod. and 7.5 shot early then mod. and 4 shot later in the season.

I reload and use 1 1/4 ounce # 7's. Great patterns.

I second the hevi-shot. 1 1/8 oz #6. I usually shoot IC as most flushes (80%) are close and the IC seems to group really well with the hevi-shot.

I shoot a O/U. First barrel is I/C second barrel is Modified. For Pheasants i like High Base 5 or 6. Using Federal Premium high base pheasant 5's for pheasant this year, drops them like the hammer of Thor. For quail i run cheapo low base 8's.

Quail has been great this year for me. Pheasant has been a little slower, If we get some nastier weather between now and the close of pheasant season it will be hot(get those boys to hold instead of run)

Anyone know of any decent places to go for pheasant in or near the Willamette Valley?

I have been talking to locals near my town and nobody has seen or knows of any, but the ODFW distribution maps all say there is a population in the valley. What gives?

I use a #2 steel 3inch mag for pheasant in steel areas, and in lead areas I use a 4 or 5.

I think that small steel shot (smaller than a #3) is a bust, because it sticks in the bird and your chances of busting a tooth and needing a $2000 dental visit go up exponentially with all of the shot in the bird.

I like #3 in steel (2 3/4 Kent faststeel), #6 in lead early, #5 later on. I've been using some Kent Tungsten Matrix in #5 I think 3" 20 guage, that stuff just flattens roosters. Somebody gave me this box, but I'll look at the end of the season for any on sale.
