Re: Alsea River/Bay Help
Smily,
went crabbing at Alsea Bay 2 wks ago, crabbing was very good. My theory on the Bay,is that it is so small, and so many people crab it, it gets crabbed out towards the end of a weekend. Crabbed on Fri. before the crowds hit it, and 4 of us had our limits in just over an hour. Took us most of the day on Sunday to accomplish the same thing. Get the easy crabs early, then leave the scattered ones to the others and go after salmon.
The salmon are there. Since I was with out of town family, we only crabbed, but there were several boats in the mouth fishing (up to 12 at one point). I talked to as many of them as I could, and fishing was fair to good, but still a few weeks early. Labor Day usually sees much improved fishing from the mouth up to Silver King (I think that is what it is called) trailer park and boat ramp. Whatever it is called, it's only 1-2 miles upriver of the Port. Last year they were really catching lots of big salmon out in front of it on plug cuts and a big pink spinner. Of course they were sold out of them, so I never really got to see what it was. I'll be fishing there all weekend, I'll give you a report when I get back.
