Default Alvins VS Brads Wobblers

Can anyone tell me if there is any significant differance between the Brads and Alvin? I have actually never used a true Alvin but hear they are essentially the same.
The Brads are generally cheaper. I also replace the single hook with a treble on the Brads. Is this a common practice? Thanks

I bought some of the Brads when they were on sale for under six bucks at Joes. The only difference I have noticed is that I can't catch anything on the Brads. All six fish in our boat last weekend hit the Alvins. We also replace the siwash hook with a 1/0 or 2/0 extra strong treble. Have not lost a fish.
Have not had any luck with the Clancy's either.

Thanks BRshooter! (so that my problem)

I heard that the Alvins manufacturer failed to patent theirs and Brads has duplicated the design. 6 fish makes for a nice weekend. I went out saturday and caught 1 on a chrome with green prism tape Brads. Will be stopping by fishermans marine tonight to get a couple Alvins (GI Joes in Beaverton does not carry Alvins?????) Is ther any particular type that you like. I hear there is going to be a cloud cover timorrow morning. Thanks

Brads come with a nickle finish ... Alvins come with either nickle or silver plate. I believe silver plate reflects light across a broader spectrum in the low light levels in 40 to 50 feet of water. What I really need to test my theory is some sterling Alvins. Anyone care to donate to the cause?

I am work in a Tool & Die company, during lunch last I made a simple form tool to make my own Alvins...I have made them with mild steel & plated them along with Alum & Stainless...I have hooked fish on them..the Alum ones I use most because you can tune them to the water flow condtions....I have seen its the chrome/sliver with Char, green & blue tips that have had the best hits...

I've hooked up with the Brad's.

What I was told and practice is to replace the treble hook on the brads with a strong single hook. This improves the action and it runs more like the Alvin. I've hooked up with the silver and blue one. The chrome and brass has a pretty good reputation.

Let us know how you do. I believe that the dropper is the most important part of the setup. It should be 42" and the leader should be 45".

Where are you fishing?

Later,

Mr. F.

Thanks Mr.F-Man,

Most of the Brads that I have bought at Joes come with a single hook. I have always replaced them with Treble. Might have to pay more attention with the action (treble vs. single). Dropper and leader length/agreed!!!!!!! I will be at F-Bar the next three day's. Will report on Tuesday. Best of luck!

If I could add a little idea to your wobbler theory - When hooking on the wobbler (any brand) try hooking it to the snap ring instead of the swivel. Leaving the swivel to swing free - tapping the lure. Kind of like the rattle in your mag worts. Have also added a bead chain on to the snap ring, which even makes louder sound. The funny thing is, I have caught more fish on my ugliest Alvin. Several notches on the top of that one. Also, some of the older Alvins came in a thicker style, which allowed them to still work good in very fast current.
