Default Mouth of the Deschutes

How's the fishing? I heard from my buddy, and we will be there on Monday for steelhead. Any suggestions on what to use, where to fish, etc?

Are steelhead about all that will be out there?

My suggestion would be to set two alarm clocks.

Cool Texan,

There might be a few salmon up that way by now. Last weekend there were over 13,000 chinooks and 5,000 or so silvers and another 5,000 or so steelies on Sunday alone! They have been making their way above the next few dams too. If you are fishing from a boat, most people troll plugs in the Columbia just outside of the mouth. Red firetiger with a black stripe or the Michael jacksons ahve been working too. Both of these plugs are Wigggle Warts. If yuo are hoofing it or better yet mountain biking it, then from shore you can fly-fish, toss spinners (#3 blue fox in a variety of colors), or cast and retrieve plugs mentioned above. Just remember NO BAIT! Good luck, and you might want to set 3 clocks AND have you buddy call you an hour or two b4!
