2008 big game regulations
2008 big game regulations are now available on-line. Here is a link to the pdf file.
http://www.dfw.state.or.us/resources...mewebnoads.pdf
News to me..... Not too sure when these were added to their website, but they were adopted by the Fish and Wildlife Commission in late October.
some changes are,
Bear hunters must check the skull of your animal in at a ODFW office within 10 days of harvesting the animal.
You do not need to put in for controlled hunts within 2 years to retain your points anymore.
Preference points start at age 9 now.
There are other changes, those were just the ones that stood out to me.

Re: 2008 big game regulations
Arent the tag numbers estimated and then finalized in the summer some time?
found a couple of interesting things when browsing for changes in blue text:
New: You must indicate if you are applying
as an individual, party member or party
leader when applying for your controlled hunts.
Attention Starkey Experimental
Forest Hunters!
Research designed to evaluate the response of elk and mule deer to ATV activity during
the hunting season will begin in the Starkey Experimental Forest and Range enclosure in
2008. Successful applicants for hunts 152B, 252D and 252R must agree to participate in
the research by having a GPS unit (~1.0 lb) on their person while hunting and having a
second GPS unit attached to their ATV at all times during the 5-day season. Hunters should
be aware that many secondary roads in the south half of the hunt area will be open to
ATV use, while only one short segment of road 2120 will be open to motorized access
in the north half. These changes in ATV and motorized access will be in effect fi ve days
before each hunt and through each hunt period. Hunters should also be aware of camping
restrictions, which limit camps to within 300 feet of open (green dot) roads. For further
details of the ATV project and other related research or to view a map of roads open
during the hunts, please visit the following web sites (www.dfw.state.or.us or www.fs.fed. us/pnw/Starkey), or contact Scott Findholt at 541-962-6538, or Brian Dick at 541-962-6539.

WOW! I was not even looking for them in stores yet. From what I have heard they were only finalized in the last couple of weeks of October.

The actual numbers aren't set until late April/May. The tag numbers in the regs are 2007's numbers.

I darn sure hope so. We've been waiting 15 yrs for this opp. Hopefully with the points we will have a chance. We don't do alot with them ATVs, we take them but mostly they stay parked, even been some years they don't get unloaded. I can see a phone call in the future for more info.

Re: 2008 big game regulations
Thanks for the link. Does anyone know if the online hunter harvest report is available yet?

Re: 2008 big game regulations
Starkey Bow is only 5 days.
Mt Emily and WW bow are now bulls only, no more "cow hunters w/ bugles".

Re: 2008 big game regulations
There is also a late season buck tag for white river and hood unit. Very few tags, looks like a trophy blacktail tag to me. There are some monsters in the higher elevations.
