If the Corp dumping had nothing to do with changing wave patterns, why the hell did they hussle out there to move it again after the accident? Hmmm, can you say "CYA". What I don't understand is that the Corps dredges the river, and disposes of a lot of the dredgings IN the river. They don't haul it all out to the ocean, they dump some of it in "deeper" locations, some just a few miles away from the first place. Job security? I mean, how bright do you have to be to see that it isn't going to stay where you put it when it's still in A RIVER!!!

Corps of ENGINEERS, hmmmmm.

Oh yeah, and those toxin-thing-a-ma-jigs, they suck too.

I would imagine that the Corps' greatest concern is commercial traffic heading in and out of the mouth, so they dump it out of the shipping lanes without thought to any other impact. After all, boating this sand out further is both financially and occupationally risky.

As for the "illegal toxins" I would venture to guess that there is still quite a bit of use of these chemicals out in the field, as there is probably still some sort of black market on these chemicals. If anything they probably stocked up prior to the regulation start date. Of course this is only speculation.
