Hog lines don't require boat banging. On the Columbia boats are usually 20 feet or so apart. Because of the deep depths and long anchor and fishing lines it allows more people to fish in a more orderly way without interfering with each other by tangling fish in anchor lines. It can be a little too social, but it gives you the opportunity to see more fish close up and compare techniques.

invader,
I have done better fishing in a line than away from one. However, I have seen fish caught by boats by themselves. I think the most important thing to look for is for slots where the fish will run if your trying to get away from the crowds. Of course if your the first one there and you get your slot expect others to join you.

The hoglines on the columbia are not like the ones at OC in the spring. No boat should ever come close to bumping into you.

Good luck.
