OFFICIAL Ifish Photo Contest #7 Winners Announced!!!
IFISH PHOTO CONTEST - THEME #7 - Healing Waters!!!
The theme for the #7 Ifish photo contest is 'Healing Waters'...Ifish member Mokai and 2 others requested 'Water' for the next theme, so that's what we are going to do. Anything water goes!
Open minds and healing waters. Some live on it and some play in it while still others fish in it. It falls from the sky and flows through the cracks in the land. A disaster for many and a saving grace for others. When you think of water, what photo does your mind bring you back to? Let us see it : )
To be considered for this contest your picture or pictures (2 maximum) related to 'water' must be posted on this thread no later than midnight on November 31st, 2007. Contest now runs 30 days so we all have extra time to fish for a new photo!
Before entering, please read the contest rules posted here: CONTEST RULES
Remember, even if you are not going to enter the contest you can still participate by being a judge or donating a prize!
With regard to this thread, feel free to ask questions of the photographer or discuss the photographs posted, but lets keep it positive.
The prizes for the winning 'Healing Waters' photograph is a 20$ Joe's gift card donated by Gowey. Thanks Gowey!
HAVE FUN!!!
If you would like to donate a prize to the Ifish photo contest, we would be grateful, please PM me.
Columbia River, Summer. Many are enjoying the healing waters of the river on this very warm evening.
Nikon D80-17 x 135 DX
Programmed Auto Mode [on tripod]
Capture NX edit for 13 deg. warming and slight color boost for contrast.

Re: OFFICIAL Ifish Photo Contest #7 HEALING WATERS!!!
Here's a view of Catalina Island taken from Salt Creek Beach during the first days of the 2003 So Cal wildfires. Offshore conditions from the Santa Anas caused fires throughout San Diego that year, but also produced nice surf conditions that week. All the ash in the air kept things sort of gray and orange throughout the day, but for about a half hour at sunset, everything glowed red and gradually faded out into a purple. Being out in the water those days was incredible. The water was cold, and the air was hot and dry, with the taint of ash in it. Every time you'd duck under a wave it was sort of cleansing. As good as the waves were, the most memorable part was just sitting there and watching the reflections and colors glow off of the water's surface.
It was kind of nice to see a little bit of beauty caused in part by all of the destruction. It was sort of an escape, I suppose.
Sony DPC72 3.2 megapixel digital camera on auto.

Re: OFFICIAL Ifish Photo Contest #7 HEALING WATERS!!!
Here's my two...
First is the Danning River in China, a tributary to the Yangtze. It was taken on a trip my wife and I took there in 2005. This is before the dam was fully completed, and the water level rose. It probably looks a bit different now. The color of the water was amazing! Taken with a Cannon A85 on Landscape setting.
Next was on the Salmonberry River in the Coast Range. This was a side trip a friend and I took after doing a steelhead spawning survey with a group of volunteers....we sat there for over an hour counting the fish jumping over the falls, I forget the exact number, but we counted in the 40's in 30 minutes. Taken with the same Cannon A85 on sports mode.

Two of my favorites.
The first is a picture I was lucky enough to get on my last halibut trip!
And the second is a picture of the sunrise at craine prairie.

Re: OFFICIAL Ifish Photo Contest #7 HEALING WATERS!!!
While water probably isn't my best subject, I have to enter something!! So here's #1. Taken with a Nikon D50 on auto. There's nothing cuter (or more miserable) than a chubby baby squished into a life jacket on his first fishing trip.
And my second entry also with the Nikon D50 on auto. Taken at Hoover Dam. I just loved the color of the water in this one.

My grandpa and I taken on Rock Lake in Wisconsin.
It's a scan of an old picture that was taken in August of 94 or 95 by my mom while visiting my great grandparents in Lake Mills, Wisconsin.

Re: OFFICIAL Ifish Photo Contest #7 HEALING WATERS!!!
As you've noticed, I love black and white photography. Last summer my family went down to Seaside and Kira decided to put on her best Bo Derek impression for my camera. It was overcast, so the BW worked out well.
Summer Fun
Canon 5D
70-200mmL F2.8 IS
ISO 100
F16
1/125 sec
Last summer I also went to the East Fork Lewis at Lucia Falls to try out a new lens. 7:30PM. My goal was to blur water for the first time with my camera. I learned alot that day on shutter speeds needed to do it and the importance of a good tripod for rocky terrain.
Lucia's Descent
Canon 5D
17-40mmL
ISO 100
F4
1/6 sec (tripod, remote release)
polarizing filter to step exposure down and increase contrast.

Re: OFFICIAL Ifish Photo Contest #7 HEALING WATERS!!!
I'm so totally bummed tonight. I went out scouting some new territory and came across a "weeping rock" setup in the wild. I don't know whether it was a spring or some small creek drainage as I didn't scout it out fully. I took the shells out of my shotgun and used it as a monopod to shoot the shots. I was really proud of my find and the ingenuity of the shot and couldn't wait to post them here.
Who knows whether they turned out or not because somehow they didn't transfer over from the cam to the PC and since I erased the card they're gone.

Re: OFFICIAL Ifish Photo Contest #7 HEALING WATERS!!!
The water appears to emanate from within the rocks, not just pouring down it. It was likely a small creek at the top of the hill that made its way down through a crack, then came out from between the stones. It was a small broken up shale formation and I'm not going out in this weather to try to get shots of it. We'd need a couple of days of dry weather for it to dry up enough to be worth shooting again.

Re: OFFICIAL Ifish Photo Contest #7 HEALING WATERS!!!
I took this picture of the Falls hitting the rocks up at Silver Creek Falls. After I took it, I couldn't help think of a warm waterfall in Hawaii or something.
However, it was a cool day and you'd freeze your butt off out there if you layed against the rocks and let it fall upon you, here.
Entry #1:

This was taken with a Canon A710IS point and shoot camera..
F4.8
1/60
That's about all I know about the shot.. Just that I liked the soothing way that it looked..

Re: OFFICIAL Ifish Photo Contest #7 HEALING WATERS!!!
This picture was taken on the way to the Tuna Grounds, off of Garibaldi, this summer. I loved the rays of the sun, and the colors it created off of the water. Was definitely a heavenly moment that I considered to be 'healing'.
Again, was from my Canon A710IS point and shoot
