Fished chinook landing last two days and only seen 1 fish caught. Was up by the sandy yesterday and just down from the ramp today.Where is the hot place this year?I've been fishing mostly between 40 and 50 feet deep with a 4'-5' dropper with assorted hardware without any luck.A lot has changed since i fished this area two years ago.Any help would be appreciated. Re: HELP! chinook landing
I fish out of Chinook Landing every year. I don't even start to fish that area until now, in fact my first day is tomorrow. I only use alvins, mainly brass and silver, I do better with a 6 foot droper and 5 foot leader. I fish by the 205 bridge in 28 feet. Be patient, in the next day or two, things will really pick up.

Re: HELP! chinook landing
Chinook Landing is in Troutdale. It sits down on the Columbia behind Blue Lake Park.
They have a nice facility. 6 ramps with plenty of dock space and plenty of parking. $4.00 to launch.

Re: HELP! chinook landing
Sounds like the "hot" place is the entire river. 72 degrees is pretty darned hot for that river.

Which tide do you fish or does it matter?

Re: HELP! chinook landing
Up around Chinook there might be enough flow to fish both the incoming and outgoing tides. And 72 degress is usually the "norm" for this time of year. Pretty weird,..if you put your hands in the water first thing in the morning...it feels like bath water. I know everybody seems to think that it's awful warm this year...but really..it's the norm.

Re: HELP! chinook landing
Only in certain spots can you fish the Chinook Landing area on an incoming tide this year. Many spots just don't have enough current to fish an incoming this year.

Re: HELP! chinook landing
Thanks for all of this info. I was looking at Maptech and I see a "boat launching facility" and I assume this is Chinook Landing. Please confirm here is the URL http://mapserver.maptech.com/homepag...oom=50&icon=0&

Do you ancho and let the current creat the movement on your gear or do you troll?
Also with the "drop" that all are talking about, is that how far off the "bottom" the lure is?
Thanks

Re: HELP! chinook landing
I have caught Chinook just up from Chinook Landing while trolling...but it's gotten so crowded there the last few years...I moved on. We used to use F.S.T.'s. If you try..watch out for anchor lines...and use enough lead to keep your lure on the bottom. Like maybe 12-14 oz. (depending on the flow) going uphill, and maybe about 8 going downhill.

Re: HELP! chinook landing
Fish or no fish I just want to fish. I'll see you out there tomorrow. Teal Alumaweld with a new top. Say hello if you see me. Maybe we should be fishing wrapped kwickfish?

Re: HELP! chinook landing
I'm heading out right now. Stopped by Fishermans and dropped a bill to try and do this wobbler fishing. I will let you know how it goes!

Re: HELP! chinook landing
Well spent the day out there and watch most of the mariners game! Caught one 28" nooke on a red flatfish. I had wobblers, spinners, and quick fish but he hit on a little old flat fish that I thought I would catch a steele on.
Going to head to the mouth of the lewis tomorrow.
