Default Re: north jetty fishing?

I haven't fished off the Jetty for 10 years but the way we used to catch them was run a 3 foot dropper with a 4-4-1/2' leader to either a fixed or sliding mooching rig. Back then I used a sliding but now prefer the fixed. Cut the leader in half and put a bead chain on the mooching rig side then rety other half of leader together. Take a bead and slide it down to the bead chain then take a cork and slide it down to the bead and take the orange stop and stop it on the other side. Now that you have your leader, tie it to a spreader or a 3 way swivel. I prefer the spreader but have used both. The cork will help keep it off the bottom but also gives you some resistance against your herring or anchovies and helps keeps it spinning. Use as much weight as your rod can comfortably throw. I used a 12'
Surf rod and had no problem throwing 10 or 12oz 3 sided pyramids which don't roll around as much in the surf. Also, make sure that your dropper is a lighter pound test than your main line because you will lose weights. After you have your bait rigged up and you've cast out as far as you can then comes part two of this contraption.....The sliding bobber setup....8-10' leader to a 2oz
banana wt. (depending on surf conditions) to the mooching rig. Slide the biggest bobber you can find on to the leader with a clip on top. Slide it down mainline as far out as you can while holding rod up high. Now your fishing two depths. Whalla! The key to success here is to keep an eye on your stuff. Fish will come up and nibble on it and if your not paying attention, you won't catch much. Good luck. jb
