ifish4fun,

Do a search for Tacklebuster's posts on the subject. He's the man when it comes to sturgeon fishing. He posted several tutorials a couple of weeks back that should get you pointed in the right direction. Remember it's only open Thursday through Saturday above Wauna on the Columbia. Good luck!

I've only fished for them once.....but I learned that your bait should not be moving...and smell really, really bad!

I fish the docks in St. Helens with my brothernlaw and have seen some keepers there lots of shakers. other than that if you have a boat find a deep hole and give it a try.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">On the bank was pretty close, Find a deep hole but put your bait at the upriver side of the hole and let the scent drift down into the hole pulling them up to your bait. The best way to find fish is to just move around alot and try to find them. Sometimes they'll be shallow sometimes deep. If you go out enough and pay attention to the terrain (underwater) you'll find fish. Good Luck

By the Mill at the mouth of the channell. I have found in that area I have to move a lot in one day to find the fish. Sometimes you only have to move 50 feet sometimes more. With the smelt in you should probably have one rod out with smelt.

Default Looking for Help on where to fish sturgeon

Hi All,

I have been out about 4 times trying to find a good place to sturgeon fish by St. Helens. I have only managed to catch a few shakers one time.

I mostly want to fish in the Columbia, not the Willy, just not to sure I want to eat a fish from there.

I am not looking for any secret spots (unless you want too ), just some general directions like try in X depth of water or go X miles from the MC up or down stream, or such.

Thanks a lot in advance for any help.
