My new shotgun
I've been in Reno this week at a trade show. While killing some time Sunday night I played my favorite game .... roulette. I walked away after a big hit with winnings of almost $800. And no, the original $100 of chips I started with is back in my pocket too. I'm done with gambling this week and called and orderered my new shot gun. No telling when I'll get the gun but I got the money stashed away for it now Beth approved
The Winchester super x 3. I'm getting a 28 inch barrel and dipped in Mossy Oak duck blind.
Check out the videos on this link

Life is good ... so is lucky number 27

Re: My new shotgun
Get a hack saw and cut about 3" off the barrel. Don't mind me I am getting old and grouchy. I think most guys would shoot better with a shorter barrel.
I have a new theory developed over years of shooting. You never miss because you are too far in front. You are always behind. A long gun is a slow gun.
So, save up for the hack saw.

I already have a hacksaw thanks. Looks like you've been using yours on that fish in your avatar

Re: My new shotgun
Shark or Barracuda in the Bahamas got to my fish. You could try hanging that big old long barrel over and seeing if they would trim it.
The upside of that big old gun, is if your engine quits and your oar is a home. You can use it as a push pole. Better not trim it!

As I see it, the problem with your new theory about barrell lenth is it is based on years of shooting and missing. That's about handling ... if shorter was really better for most guys then you should be preaching using pistols for waterfowl. Like most things in life, there's a balance that is better.
And in regards to big and old???? It's new and state of the art ...
You were serious about that old and grouchy comment weren't you? My new theory about you dumping on my excitement about getting a new shotgun is based on gun envy
Na Na Na I got one coming and you don't.

No rain here. Just a difference of opinion given what was meant to be a light hearted fashion.
A lot of thin skin in todays politically correct environment.

Re: My new shotgun
jnicholson,
Congrats on the new shotgun, it will do the job just fine but you already knew that. It seems everyone is in typical Ifish form here on the Hunting side, but a few weeks early, must be due to lack of weather and poor hunting conditions. Oh Ya I got 28" too!

Re: My new shotgun
Congats on hitting the jackpot JNicholson! I think picking up a new shotgun with some "windfall" money will make it all the sweeter. As far as barrel length goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That is, if it works for YOU then it's all good. I have shotguns that run the full range of length and use them in different situations. IE: the 20" hi-cap mag pump-gun is for home defense and the 24" camo gun is easier to handle in a turkey or duck blind and the 28" are upland and sporting clays guns. The prevailing wisdom of most shotgun gurus accepts longer barrels as smoother swinging and less prone to stopping during the shot. Many top guns shoot 30" or 32" shotguns for serious competition.
