Default River water temperature

Columbia is running at about 72 degrees. How much cooler does it need to be for the fish to start biting as opposed to takin a bath? I am hearing about all these record numbers of chinook running (I guess the record count is already just about broken) but just havnt heard of any fish being caught on the rivers.

They will bite, trust me. You should be out there going after them. Try a little scent if you're not having any success. I wouldn't recommend bait...just hardware. Fish ARE being caught.

heh heh. Ok. It's not for lack of trying, belieeeeeve me. I'll stick to hardware and see what happens. I've got a silver alvin and some blue fox spinners. I'll get back at it.

I'm not sure what's up in the last few days. Saturday I was traking 68 degrees at the surface and the bite was pretty good. By last night I was tracking 70.5 and it seemed the bite got progressivly worse with the temp Sun, Mon and Tues. Who knows, it could be the moon, the weather, or, god for bid - Me!

Great subject. I read that nookies are around the 46-53 temps. I've heard slowly, almost idle troll dropping a thermometer counting pulls as you check....once, twice or as many times as needed to find this depth and measure your dropper accordingly. Great way to feel the fishing exitement or may you be in the catching excitement when their biting.
