Default Ocean Questions

Ocean Fishermen,
I plan to head out into the ocean from Hammond for salmon this Thursday. How far out do I need to go to find fish, and if I happen to catch a chinook, can I come back in and fish at Buoy 10? Basically I need some clarification on the rule changes.
Signed, Confused
Thanks

Simple go out into ocean catch one nook and one silver motor back to the dock (don't stop to fish) drop nook off at rig go back out into bay catch 2 more coho and your done .

Rule says one nook from ocean and no fishing in bay (bouy10)with nook in possesion so drop it off before you fish the bay.

It is my understanding that you can NOT fish at buoy 10 with a chinook in your boat.

I'm a relative beginner and made my first trip to the ocean last Sunday. Got past Buoy 4 and started fishing and silvers were everywhere. Bait, diver, number of pulls, probably nothing mattered, I'm guessing. Tie a spark plug to your line and put some Cheese Wiz on your hook, I'm sure it would have worked. The Ocean is wonderful!

But what I haven't figured out is how to catch Chinooks out there. I've heard go deeper and slower but how deep, how slow? Any advice? I don't have a downrigger. Do I need one? I've also read that Chinooks hug the dropoffs. Is that true?

With Buoy 10 closed for Nookies it sounds like this may be my last chance for the year.

It's also my understanding that you can't fish at Buoy 10 with a Chinook in possession. From the Washington state F&W webpage, it's not clear to me if that applies to the individual fisherman or the boat. I would suppose that if you have tagged a 'nook then the others on your boat could still fish, but not you.
