Default Moth damage?

Do moths only go after furs or do they go after feathers. I've had feathers in a art piece that seem to have lasted for years.

I keep all my feathers in seperate containers but my furs are kept in a red cedar storage drawer. The furs seam fine and the feateres do too. I wonder if some feathers are affected more than others?

I've had bugs get in my feathers, usually feather mites from wild game birds. My suggestion is to keep some moth balls in a altoid box with holes in it in the same drawer as your feathers.

Oh yeah they like feathers. I had 2 old (but nice) grizzly hackle necks get a good "trimming" when I left them in what I thought was a sealed box.

Ditto on the moth balls.

I had mite/bug problems several years ago, and I think it arose from keeping "found" materials in my regular materials stash.

Now my roadkill recoveries spend a few months in the freezer before going into the tying desk, but I still keep them in Zip-Loc segregation from purchased materials.

Helpful hint: If you pop a fresh hide or hare's mask into the freezer, remember to tell your wife it's in there. You'll both live longer.
