Halibut at CR Buoy?

Two weekends ago, I was fishing near the CR Buoy and heard a gunshot. I figured someone got their boat a little too close to someone else [img]images/icons/shocked.gif[/img] Perhaps it was someone with a big halibut?

I'm heading back out there this weekend with some friends and one of them suggested we drop our herring to the bottom when we've caught our limits of silvers [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img] and try to hook us a halibut.

Has anyone heard of such a thing out there?

i heard one tuesday as well (gunshot) maby it came from the firing line?

Boys, the reasons for the gun shots are not for the Halibut but for the blue fine sharks that are swarming the area. Case in point, yesterday while fishing four in the boat at bouy 2 we had three monster take downs. I mean the tip of the rod to the water take downs. The first two times we came up with no hooks left. The third time it hit a rod with 80# power pro and 50# leader. Up to the boat came this blue beauty of a shark and gave us the eye ball. It stayed with us for about a minute before it finally broke off.

Wow! I wish I had a harpoon or a pistol out there. Talk about your good eats!. After we caught our last coho, I dumped the rest of the brined herring into the water and shut off the motor. About two minutes later up came that same darn shark again!

Lesson, have a steel leader ready for those gigantic takedowns. Get a harpoon and get a shark.

As for halibut, no idea, sorry.
