Salmon question for the experts....
Are the salmon making their way into the rivers now, or still mainly out in the ocean?
Sounds like they havent started their run yet...but how would I know.
If someone claimed to be catching several good sized salmon in a river North of Ridgeview (or Ridgefield??) Washington, would this be a BS story??

Re: Salmon question for the experts....
Not a lie at all. The wife and I were fishing that area this weekend. We did ok.
Friday-21# hen
Sunday-19# buck
Monday-19# hen, 21# buck, 24# buck, 25# hen
Friday was our first day fishing that area. Got talking with some regulars on Sunday and went to school on them. Results payed off on Monday.
Can't wait for this weekend. Going to hit it hard again.

Re: Salmon question for the experts....
11 fish on Sat. more to come this afternoon...muh ha ha ha ha
All silvers, biggest about 10 pounds. They're in the rivers, just get out and find them. You can't learn if you don't put the knowledge to more of a hands-on tutorial.

Re: Salmon question for the experts....
Just curious. Thanks!
I'll let y'all know when I learn how the heck to fish for those things. Right now, the only techniques I know are:
1) Seafood counter at Fred Meyer
2) Menu catching
3) Smack my old lady across the backside and whoop out "fetch me some salmon woman!".
Suffice it to say, #3 is not a real popular method with her. I usually catch a mild earful for that one...but ironically, usually end up eating salmon too...so....

silvers are already showing up in the lower sandy, as a matter of fact. got a report from a guy who landed and released one at lewis and clark park. i'm holding off going out for them until i can keep them.

Re: Salmon question for the experts....
Cool Texan -
also take into account that some of us are from Washington, and we can keep salmon in some of the rivers already
You never said where you'll be fishing.

Re: Salmon question for the experts....
You would probably have more luck somewhere other than the Ridgefield area.

Re: Salmon question for the experts....
brshooter,
Fished yesterday late around buoy 75 and only saw a few fish landed. One just below and one above. Sounds like you really got dialed in, any hints on your success? Are you fishing in this area? Plan on going back this weekend.

Re: Salmon question for the experts....
I'm not a salmon fisherman yet. I had a chance to go out last weekend, but blew it (long story).
I am asking about this cuz a friend is claiming that he caught a few in a river somewhere around Ridgefield (or Ridgeview...not sure the name...North of Vancouver). I wasnt sure if they were in ther rivers or not yet. His story sounded shady, so I thought I'd ask.
As for me, I probably wont do much of any salmon fishing...dont have a boat, dont know what kind of gear to use/buy for this, where to go, etc. We didnt get very many salmon runs in Texas, so I am clueless.

Re: Salmon question for the experts....
Hey Tex, I'm pretty new at this too but I'm catching on pretty quick. I'd share what I've been doing off both bank and boat, but I havn't produced very well this year so I may be doing somthing wrong and wouldnt want it to carry over to you.
You can check this thread for an idea though. Great source of info...
http://www.ifish.net/cgi-local/ultim...c&f=1&t=006609
I've been using alvin wobblers from the boat on the river and have tried a k-16 quickfish...no luck with either though. From the bank, I have just tried back bouncing eggs and or shrimp and also tried a variety of the blue fox spinners.
I'm sure, from what I've seen so far, some of these guys would be glad to give some starting out advise. Seen a bunch of guides on here, so wouldnt be suprized to see a "go spend the money on a guide, its worth it!" kind of response. lol (they would probably be right)

Re: Salmon question for the experts....
Cool Texan-
Along with this great forum, let me also point you towards great places for info with video and pics. Perfect for the beginner or advanced angler alike. www.steelheader.net www.piscatorialpursuits.com
Plus, they are more area'd for Washington.
Your local library has books that will get more in-depth on methods, presentations, etc.
